3. BACK ROADS (2018)

After his mother shoots and kills his abusive father and gets sent to prison, his character is left to look after his three younger sisters, one of whom is the overtly sexual and rebellious Amber (played by Nicola Peltz). Harley is wrecked and angered by his tumultuous past, but a ray of hope appears on the horizon when he develops a relationship with a married woman. Back Roads is a beautiful and tenuous exploration of the ways that repressed emotions and toxic masculinity can impact the lives of people in a community. The American princess soon finds that very few people give a damn about her in her new environment and she will not be getting special treatment no matter how hard she pushes. She soon realizes being a bad girl will only get her so far in life, but before she changes for the better, she is going to shake up the school a little bit. This Alex Pettyfer movie might hit all the right marks for girls in their tweens, but a more mature audience will see right through the bland jokes, bland direction, and thin characters it has to offer.
8. I AM NUMBER FOUR (2011)
Another sci-fi thriller that manages to fall unbelievably flat on its face, I Am Number Four is built around a plot that is at once familiar and unforgettable. It revolves around John Smith played by Pettyfer, who is being hunted down by enemies from his past responsible for the deaths of three others like him. With the help of his guardian, he moves from place to place, changing identities, and severing all ties with his former lives. In the new town he currently calls home, John soon finds love and unlocks incredible abilities that could help save his destiny or destroy it. Although this is not a terrible movie, it’s not very good either.
9. THE I-LAND (2019)
Alex Pettyfer stars as Brody, one of the ten people who wake up to find themselves stranded on a dangerous island with no memory of how they got there or what kind of lives they had before. With their memories wiped clean, they have no idea how to navigate the new and strange world they must make their living on. Unbeknownst to the ten, they are all violent criminals that are being used for an experiment called rehabilitation simulation, to test if they are capable of change or only able to continue their old behaviors.
The limited sci-fi series aired on Netflix and it has received mostly bad reviews so far. The character development, theme, plotline, and flashback structure of the show is comically bad and leaves you with a sense that everyone involved knew they were making a terrible show, but continued anyway. To call The I-Land an absolute embarrassment would be an understatement.
10. ENDLESS LOVE (2014)
This romantic drama is one of the worst of Alex Pettyfer’s movies. It draws inspiration from the 1979 novel and 1981 film of the same title. The actor and Gabriella Wilde take the lead as David and Jade, two star-crossed lovers determined to pursue their affections for each other despite the strong disapproval from their parents. On Jade’s part, she is the sheltered daughter of a well-to-do family who wants a better choice of mate for her, while David is a troubled kid from a working-class family. The more their parents try to keep them apart, the more reckless their affair becomes.
Endless Love is so bad, sappy, silly, and desperate to create sizzling drama that the movie ends up almost being entertaining. If we were to make a list of Alex Pettyfer’s movies that are not worth the effort it takes to watch them, Endless Love would be leading the race.
