Tauheed Epps who goes by the stage name 2 Chainz was born on the 12th of September 1977 in College Park, Georgia, United States of America. The eminent rapper was a former member of the defunct group called the Southern hip-hop Playaz Circle, alongside Earl “Dolla Boy” Conyers; his friend from childhood.

Education

2 Chainz was a student of North Clayton High School; where he was a renowned basketball player who came out second in his class. When he was still in high school, at age 15, he was apprehended for being in possession of cannabis. He further attended Alabama State University on a scholarly scheme and was an ardent player in the university’s basketball team from the year 1995 to 1997.

There was a widely held speculation that 2 Chainz graduated with a GPA of 4.0 from Alabama State University, which he outrightly debunks. He said while he was a student at the university, he got into some kind of problem which made him relocate from the school, but later came back to complete his studies. He did not explain the nature of the problem he got himself involved in.

2 Chainz Early Beginnings

2 Chainz happens to be the brain behind the forming of the group Playaz Circle. Playaz Circle is an acronym that stands for Preparing Legal Assets for Years from A to Z. He initiated this group when he was in College Park, Georgia in 1997; alongside Earl Conyers, his friend back then in high school. While Earl Conyers adopted the name “Dolla Boy”, Epps assumed the name “Titi Boy” as his nickname.

Earl and Epps were both introduced to Ludacris, their fellow Atlanta rapper after he relocated to their compartment in College Park when he was still serving as a DJ. The release of the Independent Album by the duo which they titled United We Stand, United We Fall paved way for them as Ludacris started recording diverse songs with the group and some of them were being played on his radio station.

Later on, Ludacris became one of the most successful and highest-selling rappers in Southern America. After hearing about Playaz Circle, he urged them to be a member of his newly established record label Disturbing Tha Peace; an offshoot of the prestigious Def Jam Records. 2 Chainz acceded to join the label, although Conyers refused to be officially signed until his mother recuperated from her ailment.

More so, Supply and Demand was the debut album the duo released on September 30, 2007. One of the hit singles in the album Duffle Bag Boy became an urban hit and was widely accepted by the masses. Lil Wayne was featured in the song and the duo performed it at the BET Hip Hop Awards. The duo later released Flight 360: The Takeoff as their second studio album on the 29th of September 2009.

By January 2010, Playaz Circle made a music video Big Dawg, their urban hit single featuring Birdman and Lil Wayne. Soon after, 2 Chainz evacuated from Disturbing Tha Peace in order to take his career to the next level. Initially, Ludacris did not want him to exit the label but eventually allowed him.

Throughout the career of 2 Chainz, several people held the notion that the pseudonym “Titi Boy” was meant to tarnish the image of the feminine gender, which he out-rightly refuted. In the year 2011, Epps later made up his mind to change his name to 2 Chainz and people became comfortable with his change of name. Following the change of his name, he decided to drop a mixtape which he titled T.R.U. REALigion. The mixtape clinched number 58 position on the Billboard Top R and B / Hip-Hop Album chart. Due to the huge success of the mixtape, Epps got featured on several songs made by notable recording artists such as Nicki Minaj’s Beez in the Trap and Kanye West’s Mercy.

As of the 24th of March, 2 Chainz alerted the public about Based on a T.r.u. Story. This was his debut studio album. The original title of the album which was T.R.U. to my ReaLigion was scheduled to be released on the 14th of August 2012. Drake; the Canadian rapper, was featured in the lead single of the album “No Lie”. As of March 11, there was a widespread rumor that 2 Chainz had been signed to G.O.O.D Music; Kanye West’s record label. Epps later confuted that speculation. Based on T.R.U. The story was a huge success because it sold over 147 thousand copies in its first week, peaking at the number one spot on the US Billboard 200. By the 23rd of September 2012, the album had sold over 288 thousand copies in the United States of America.
