50 Cent is probably one of the most popular rap artists the world has seen in the last two decades and has a huge following around the world. Rap brought the young man from Queens into the limelight, and since then he has established himself as a man with gangster lyrics that appeal to his fan base.
Over the years, 50 Cent has reinvented himself a little. He has ventured into business, television production, investment, and acting. In all these areas he has proven to be very skilled and very capable. Let’s take a brief look at the history of 50 Cent.
50 Cent’s Bio, Age
50 Cent was born on July 6, 1975, in Queens, New York, in the difficult neighborhood of South Jamaica. His full birth name was Curtis James Jackson III and he was raised by a single mother, Sabrina Jackson, in South Jamaica. Jackson was introduced to a life of crime from an early age because his mother was a drug dealer. She died in a fire when he was only eight years old and he moved in with his grandmother.
Young Jackson began selling drugs himself at the age of 12 and bought his first gun at 15. He wanted to become a boxer, so he started fighting at the junior level. In his late teens, he had some skirmishes with the law and was arrested for drug possession and heroin, and the crack was found in his home during a raid. At the time, he was the neighborhood drug kingpin, earning up to $150,000 a month. He was sentenced to three to nine years in prison, but eventually went to a boot camp and did his GED.
50 Cent was presented to Jam Master Jay from Run-DMC. Jay liked what he saw of the young rapper and helped him produce an album that was never released. When he signed with the Columbia label, he recorded the album “Power of the Dollar”, but it was never released with the songs that were meant to showcase the confrontational style of the rapper. He was shot nine times, and in 2000 he suffered a serious shooting accident but recovered from his injuries.
Together with his friends Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, he formed a group called G-Unit. Their music caught the attention of Eminem and Dr. Dre, and they helped him produce his debut album. This album was Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which was released in 2003. The songs were fuelled by stories from his time as a criminal, gun, and drug addict, mostly from real life. His style seemed to appeal to his listeners, and the album was a huge success with 9 million copies sold.
In 2005 he released another hit album with a musical style that was not so different from the first album. The album Beg for Mercy was also good with 5 million copies sold. The albums that followed, such as Curtis 2007 and Before I Self-Destruct 2009, would not carry as much weight as in his earlier days. But by that time, 50 Cent was already an established force in the entertainment industry.
He began to diversify, he invested in the soda company Glacéau, and when the company was sold to Coca-Cola in 2007, it earned him $100 million after-tax. He took roles in films such as Escape Plan 2013, Spy and Southpaw 2015, and most recently Den of Thieves 2018. 50 Cent also played the lead role in the television series Power. SMS Audio is a successful headphone franchise that turned out to be one of his better ideas.

Cent has a son who was born to him by his girlfriend at the time, Shaniqua Tompkins, on October 13, 1996. The boy’s name is Marquise Jackson. However, his relationship with Shaniqua deteriorated over the years and she sued him for $50 million, claiming that he had promised to take care of her for life. The suit was dismissed in court. The birth of the Marquise helped Jackson to calm down a bit.
Jackson also dated the model, Daphne Joy. The couple had a son together, Jackson’s second son, who was born on September 1, 2012. The boy’s name is Sire Jackson. Daphne accused Jackson of kicking her during a fight in her condominium in Los Angeles and ransacking her apartment. He is said to have caused damages worth $7,100.
