Xiumin’s Background Details

The K-pop singer popularly known as Xiumin was born in Guri, Gyeonggi province, South Korea. He was born on 26th March 1990 after which he was given the name Kim Min Seok. His early educational background has not been made public but he graduated from Catholic Kwandong University in South Korea.

He is not an only child as he has a sister whom he tries as much as possible to hide from the limelight due to their mother’s instruction. Although he looks very young when compared to the other eight members of EXO, he is the oldest of them all.

Before he joined the SM’s Everysing Contest, Xiumin had showcased his talent at the JYP audition in 2008 but he didn’t get in. The same year, he took the second position in SM’s Everysing Contest and also joined the SM Entertainment’s Casting System as a trainee.

In January 2012, Xiumin recorded a big break in his career when he was revealed as the seventh member of South Korean-Chinese boy group. Exo. The group’s debut came on April 8, 2012, and Xiumin has also continued on his other career endeavors outside the group, he made a guest appearance alongside actress Kim Yoo-Jung in the music video for “Gone” by South Korean singer Jin.

Xiumin’s musical career includes a number of collaborations with other professional singers, particularly in the year 2016 when he performed with an AOA member, Jimin, for his single titled “Call You Bae” and also featured in the video. In the same year, he did a collabo with two of the members of the EXO group, Beakhyun and Chen on the soundtrack of the television series – Scarlet Heart Ryeo, The title of the original soundtrack was “For You”.

Xiumin also featured regularly as a cast member of the popular MBC reality TV show titled It’s Dangerous Beyond the Blankets. This show further helped put him before the global audience at an unprecedented rate. He also did a musical collaboration in the year 2017 with Mark, a member of the NCT band on a single titled “Young and Free”.

In May 2019, the singer was enlisted to serve his country through the mandatory military service which requires him to join the military. Interestingly, Xiumin took his musical talent to the military service as news flooded his office that he will be featuring in the army musical titled “Return”.

1. He Is A Trained Fighter

Asides his stage name – Xiumin, the K-pop star goes by the nickname BaoZi which means “little bun”. The alias was given to him because his favorite snack is steamed buns, combined with his handsome round face.

3. Body Stats

At a height of 173 cm, Xiumin is among the shortest members of Exo with Tao and Kai taking the spot as the tallest at 1.83 m and 1.85 m respectively. He weighs 57 kg which gives him an athletic build. The singer has dark brown eyes and dyes his hair with different colors, mostly brown.
