Adam Michael Rodriguez was born on April 2, 1975, in New York City. His mother Janet worked as an employee of an airline company while his father Ramon Rodríguez was a high-level business executive. Adam Rodriguez is Hispanic; his father is half-Cuban and half-Peurto Rican while his mother is of Puerto Rican descent.

The young Rodriguez completed his high school education in 1993 at Clarkstown High School North in Clarkstown, Rockland County, New York. He had dreamed of becoming a professional baseballer, however, his dreams were truncated due to a spine injury he incurred as a teenager.

Having lost the chance of pursuing a sports career, Rodriguez eventually switched his interest to acting.
