Alex Morgan is a well renowned American soccer player, FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, and an Olympic gold medalist.

Alex Morgan Biography (Age)

She was born Alexandra Patricia Morgan on July 2, 1989, in San Dimas, California to Pamela S. and Michael T. Morgan.

Morgan and her two older siblings (Jeni and Jeri) were raised in Diamond Bar, a suburb located approximately 30 miles east of Los Angeles. She graduated from Diamond Bar High School.

Club Career

In school, she participated in everything sports and was well known for her speed and sprinting ability. Although Morgan showed interest in sports from an early age, she didn’t play club soccer until she joined Cypress Elite at the age of 14.

While with the club, she won the Coast Soccer League (CSL) under-16 championship. She was also a three-time all-league pick and was named All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Morgan played for Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state teams as well. At the age of 17, she was called up to play for the United States under-20 women’s national soccer team.

She also played for the California Golden Bears (2007 to 2010), led the Golden BearscGolden Bears in scoring, and helped them reach the NCAA Tournament four years in a row.

Before going international, Alex played for a host of other clubs in the country, she was with the Western New York Flash from 2011 to early 2012 when she had to leave due to legal and financial challenges. She was with Seattle Sounders Women for the rest of 2012.

In 2013, Morgan was one of three U.S. national team players to join the Portland Thorns FC for their inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League, she remained with them till 2015.

Towards the end of 2015, Morgan left Portland Thorns FC and signed on to Orlando Pride. She has remained with the club ever since, except that in 2017, she was loaned to French side champion Lyon for a reported $33,000 per month.

Due to an ACL injury that she sustained while playing in a scrimmage against the men’s junior national team, Morgan couldn’t train with the U.S under-20 women’s national soccer team until April 2008.

Thus, her first appearance with the team was during the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship which was held in Puebla, Mexico – in the team’s match against Cuba, Morgan scored her first international goal. After this, she was among the team that represented the country in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Chile.

At the tournament, Morgan scored four goals in their matches against, North Korea, France, and Argentina. Her fourth goal became the magic touch that brought U.S. a gold medal. The goal was also voted the best goal of the tournament and was later named FIFA’s second-best goal of the year.

Her performance at the tournament also earned her the Bronze Shoe as the tournament’s third-highest goal scorer and also the Silver Ball as the tournament’s second-best player after Sydney Leroux.

She was adopted by the senior team. Her first appearance was in 2010, as a substitute in a match against Mexico. Since then, Alex Morgan has remained a household name when it comes to female soccer in the U.S., she was on the team that played at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2012 London Olympics – scoring the goal at the semi-final match against Canada in extra time that sent the U. S to the gold medal match against Japan.

She was also at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.
