Alexander Michael Rossi was born on the 25th day of September 1991 in Auburn, California, and raised in Nevada City by his parents: Peter and Dawn Rossi. He belongs to white ethnicity and holds an American nationality. Alex attended Auburn’s Forest Lake Christian High School where he graduated at the age of 16.
Like most other professional racing drivers, he showed his interest in sports from a young age starting with racing karts. He became the International Kart Federation Grand Champion in 2005 in the 100cc Yamaha class. He was a semi-finalist in the Redbull Formula One American Drivers Search which earned him a 2006 Skip Barber National Scholarship from the Skip Barber Racing School where he became the youngest champion at the age of 14 and finished 3rd overall.
Professional Career
Rossi began racing in Formula One in 2007 in the Formula BMW USA series where he finished third in the overall championship. He drove for Team Apex Racing, USA, and got three wins with five podiums. He moved over to Europe to race under HiTech racing and later ISR Racing. He came 4th in the Formula Master championship in 2009 which by a starter’s standard was no small feat.
In 2010, he joined multiple-championship-winning team ART Grand Prix to the new GP3 where he won 2 times and finished 4th in the series. He finished third in the World Series by Renault as the best rookie driver and stayed with the team for some time before making a move to other teams for other championships.
In 2012, he was with Caterham F1 as a test driver alongside reserve driver Giedo van der Garde. He became the first American driver to drive in a Formula One session since 2007. He continued to drive for the Caterham at various other times from 2012 to 2014 before departing the team.
After he left Caterham, Alexander Rossi joined Marussia F1 as reserve driver for the remainder of the 2014 season through to 2015 when he finally made his debut in the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix. Rossi went on to enter 5 of the 7 races of the 2015 season before making a switch to the Indy car series with the Andretti Autosport team for the 2016 IndyCar Series
Alexander Rossi made his Indy car debut at the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg where he qualified in the rear 19th position and finishing as the highest rookie in 12th position. He won the Indianapolis 500 after starting from the 11th position on the grid. He was named the season’s rookie of the year 2016 following his impressive performance in the races he participated in.
As at the present time, Alexander Rossi is still committed to Andretti Autosport after they confirmed they will still be using Honda engines in their race cars of which Alexander is a fan of. He has been driving for the team since the 2018 season though he is yet to record a major first position win.
