The outstanding American football wide receiver Amari Cooper has been one of the most prolific players of the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). Amari Cooper was born in Miami, Florida on June 17, 1994. He is a very private person, hence nothing much is known about his early life, parents, and siblings. Cooper started playing football right from high school. He attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School where he played the wide receiver’s position for the school team. While he was in junior year, he was a dominant 7-on-7 circuit who led his team to series of victories in different competitions. He also participated in basketball, as well as other track and field events for his school team.

During his high school career, Amari was one of the best wide receivers in his school; finishing his high school career with a record of 6 touchdowns and 33 receptions with 722 receiving yards. He was ranked No 8 by Rivals.com, the nation’s No 46 overall prospect and No 7 wideout in ESPNU 150. In addition, he was ranked No 6 wide receiver and No 10 player in Florida by 247Sports.com. While ranking No 12 pass catcher in the nation and 86th overall prospect by Scout.com; he was placed as the 25th prospect in the ESPNU Southeast Top 100 and No 12 in Florida. Among all the Universities scouting for the amazing wide receiver, Amari chose the University of Alabama over Florida State, Ohio State, and Miami, among others.

Playing for the Alabama football team, Amari Cooper broke Alabama’s 62-year-old record set by Alfred Lary by scoring 11 touchdowns in his freshman year. He also recorded 59 receptions for 1,000 receiving yards in 14 gameplays. By the end of the season, Cooper was named to the SEC All-Freshman team by the league coaches and he also earned consensus Freshman All-American honors.

The following season, Cooper featured in 12 games out of which he started seven; he recorded four touchdowns and 45 receptions with 736 receiving yards. He also participated in the Iron Bowl where he had six receptions for 178 receiving yards and in the Sugar Bowl where his team incurred a loss of 45 – 31. The talented wide receiver continued to show resilience in his game, he finished his college career recording 16 touchdowns and 124 receptions with 1,727 receiving yards. He won the Biletnikoff Award, finished third for the Heisman Trophy and was unanimously named to the All-American team. He was shortlisted as one of the prospects for the NFL draft of 2015.

Professional Career

Amari Cooper was selected by the Oakland Raiders as the 4th overall pick in the NFL draft of 2015. He made his professional debut for the Raiders against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 13, 2015. Although the Raiders lost 33 – 13 to Bengals, Amari hauled 5 receptions with 47 receiving yards. He further set a franchise rookie record having over 100 receiving yards and 72 receptions in five games. By the end of his rookie year, Cooper was named to the Pro Bowl along with his teammates Latavius Murray and Derek Carr.

In his sophomore year, he showed a lot of improvement in his games; thus finishing the 2016 season with a record of 16 points, 83 receptions with 1,153 receiving yards. At the end of the season, Amari was called to his second consecutive Pro Bowl and also ranked No 53 on the NFL Top 100 Player of 2017. During the 2017 season, Cooper’s record dropped significantly as the Raiders incurred several losses. He finished the season with 14 points, 7 touchdowns, 48 receptions, and 680 receiving yards. While Cooper is coming off from a mediocre season, there were speculations he might get the five-year option from the Raiders; nevertheless, we are hoping to see more outstanding performance from the wide receiver.
