Anil Kapoor is an Indian actor with over four decades of performance under his wings. He is one of the finest Indian actors, producers, and singers. Since making his film debut in the 1970s, he has continued to grace the silver screen with his laudable performances and excellent delivery of dialogues.

Anil Kapoor was born on December 24, 1956, in Chembur, Mumbai. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School and then St. Xavier’s College. Anil made his film debut in the unreleased 1971 film Tu Payal Mein Geet as young Shashi Kapoor and appeared in his first Hindi film with a minor role in Hamhare Tumhare in 1979. Since then, he has acted not only in Hindi films but also in other languages film.

The veteran actor has risen to become one of the most recognized Indian film actors. He has not only appeared on the silver screen as an actor but has also worked behind the scene as a producer since 2002.

His silver screen credits include Meri Jung (1985), Beta (1991), Judaai (1996), Mr India (1987), Pukar (2000), Armann (2003, where he starred alongside Amitabh Bacchan for the first time in his career). Others include Bewafaa (2004) Chocolate (2005), Race (2008), Tezz (2012), Total Dhamaal (2018). His productions include My Wife’s Murder, Ghandi, My Father, Aisha, Veere Di Wedding, Fanney Khan. 

He has also crossed his continent and featured on the international scene. The Race actor was cast in the eighth season of the American TV series 24 where he portrayed Omar Hassan, President of the fictional Islamic Republic of Kamistan. His act received rave reviews from the American press. Other foreign appearances include Slumdog Millionaire (2008) which was his first role in the international film industry, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) alongside Tom Cruise. Slumdog Millionaire won eight Academy Awards, four Golden Globes Awards, and several Filmfare Awards among others.

He originates from the Indian’s famous Kapoor family known for their affiliation to the entertainment industry. He was born as the second child to veteran film producer Surinder Kapoor and his wife Nirmal Kapoor alongside three siblings. He has an elder brother named Boney Kapoor who is into film production. Similarly, his younger brother whose name is Sanjay Kapoor is renowned as an actor and producer. Their sister is Reena Kapoor.

Boney was married to actress, Sridevi, who was dubbed the first Indian female superstar, until her death in 2018. His extended family members also include sister-in-law producer Mona Shourie Kapoor (brother, Boney’s first wife), industrialist and owner of Marwah Studios (brother-in-law), film actor Arjun Kapoor and Mohit Marwah, and educationalist Akshay Marwah (nephews), actress Jhanvi Kapoor (niece).

Coming to his immediate family, Anil Kapoor is married to Sunita Kapoor. They got married in 1984. Sunita is a costume designer and the mother of three children, two daughters, and a son.

Their eldest child, Sonam Kapoor was born on June 9, 1985. She is one of the highest-paid actresses in India and has been cast in films such as Veere Di Wedding, Aisha, Pad Man, Khoobsurat. Rhea Kapoor is their second daughter born in 1987. She is a film producer and co-owns the fashion line Rheson with her sister. Anil’s son Harshvardhan Kapoor was born on November 9, 1990, and is also an actor.

Besides his resident house, he also owns some other properties in India and abroad which include an apartment in Bandra, worth Rs 30 crore, a property in Central London, and one in Orange County, California.
