Anna Wintour was born on November 3, 1949, the daughter of Charles Wintour and Nonie Baker and named after her maternal grandmother, Anna Baker. She has four siblings – Gerald (who passed away), Patrick (a journalist), Nora, and James.

She attended North London Collegiate School and at the age of 14, she started wearing her characteristic bob hairstyle. Her interest in fashion began with watching Ready Steady Go! and reading Seventeen magazine. Her father often asked for her input when he wanted opinions on how to reach a younger audience.

In 1984 Anna Wintour married David Shaffer and they had two children together – Charles Shaffer, born in 1985, and Katherine (Bee) Shaffer, born in 1987. Anna and David divorced in 1999 because of their affair with Shelby Bryan, an American entrepreneur, and venture capitalist.

Anna is also a philanthropist and has served as a trustee for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She also founded the Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fund to discover, mentor, and support emerging and unknown fashion designers. She has worked hard to raise money for several AIDS charities, raising over $10 million.

As for her personal habits, Anna Wintour is known for appearing long before a fashion show starts and never stays at a party for more than 20 minutes.
