The diminutive beauty has seen her relevance and recognition only burgeon since her breakthrough role as Cat Valentine in Nickelodeon’s series Victorious in 2010. Since then, she has tried to juggle a career as a singer and an actress, receiving more critical acclaim for the former. Still, Ariana Grande Movies are nothing to be embarrassed about.

The actress and singer may not have been in as many TV shows and movies as a lot of her contemporaries, but she has received praise from many quarters for her character interpretation and versatility. Ariana Grande started out on Broadway with musical productions such as The Wizard of Oz and The Beauty and the Beast. She subsequently became part of the main cast of a few television shows and movies before deciding to focus primarily on music.

We have made a list of some of her known movies and TV shows beginning with the best and ending with the worst.

1. Victorious (2010 – 2013)

Ariana Grande joins the likes of Victoria Justice, Daniella Monet, and Matt Bennett among others in the Nickelodeon series Victorious.

The story centers around Tori Vega, an eager teenager as she adjusts to life at Hollywood Arts High School after she takes the place of her older sister Trina and gains admission into the institution. Grande, who is part of the main cast, plays the character Cat Valentine, one of the students who meet Vega on her first day in school.

While critics kept largely mum on the series, the audience received it with rapturous applause. On Rotten Tomatoes, Victorious received an excellent 100 percent approval rating and also bagged an 8.1 out of 10 stars on IMDb. The series aired for 4 seasons and was nominated for four Emmy Awards during its time. It also won the Award for Favorite TV Show at the 2012 and 2013 Kids’ Choice Awards.

2. Hairspray Live! (2016)

Given her love for music and her start as a Broadway actress, Hairspray Live! feels like a natural inclusion to our list of Ariana Grande movies. Aired live on NBC on December 7, 2016, this television special was made as a nod and readaptation of its predecessor: the 2002 Broadway musical Hairspray.

Hairspray Live! was set in 1962’s Baltimore and told the story of a dreamy teenager Tracy Turnblad (Maddie Baillio) and her quest to appear as a dancer on her favorite tv show, The Corny Collins Show. The show was praised for its casting and performance. The cast included Kristin Chenoweth, Dove Cameron, Jennifer Hudson, and Ariana herself who plays Penny Pingleton. The performances of Hudson and Grande were especially singled out for praise because of their singing prowess.

Hairspray Live! earned itself a 79 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 72 percent audience score. It also clinched 3 Primetime Emmy Awards and a host of award nominations.

3. Scream Queens (2015 – 2016)

This comedy horror tv series was created under the auspices of Fox and aired from September 2015 to December 2016, before it was canceled in May 2017. Scream Queens is set in Wallace University, a fictional institution located in New Orleans, Louisiana. It tells the story of a serial killer who starts plaguing the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority and picking off the girls while dressed as the University’s Red Devil mascot.

The series’s main cast included the likes of Emma Roberts, Taylor Lautner, Keke Palmer, Lea Michele, and Jamie Lee Curtis. The recurring cast did include some big names such as Niecy Nash, Nick Jonas, and Ariana Grande.

While the first season was set in a fictional University, the second was set in a hospital and was received a little better than the first. Scream Queens was very well received. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 75 percent rating calling its first season “tasteless for mainstream viewers” and “silly for horror enthusiasts.”

4. Family Guy (2014)

Next up on our list of Ariana Grande’s movies and TV shows is the wildly popular Family Guy. Since this animated TV situational comedy series premiered in January 1999, it has aired well over 320 episodes. It has also featured a host of celebrity guest voices, including Ariana Grande, who voiced a character in a 2014 episode. Her character had an offscreen cameo and was credited simply as “The Italian Girl”.

The show centers around the animated characters Peter and Lois, parents to Meg, Chris, and Stewie, and owners of their pet dog Brian. The family is known as the Griffins. While the series has been unfavorably compared to The Simpsons, it has been an overwhelming commercial success. By 2019, Family Guy had been nominated for a plethora of awards including 11 Annie Awards and 12 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning three of each.

As at 2008, the series had garnered a massive revenue north of $1 billion, including DVD sales, TV syndication, and merch sales.

5. Underdogs (2015)

This Ariana Grande’s movie is based on a story penned by a writer from Argentina. The animated story follows the life of Jake, a skilled foosball player who is challenged to a foosball game by the town bully and wins. Years later, the bully, Flash, comes back as a successful footballer and starts to take the town apart to erect a football stadium in its place. Jake is plunged into the adventure of his life, as he is joined by his team, and the figures from his foosball table come alive, to stop Flash, while at the same time, rescuing the love of his life, Laura (Ariana Grande), from the bully’s shackles.

The film was made under the auspices of Universal Pictures with a budget of $21 million, making it the costliest movie ever in the history of the Argentinian film industry. It was also a massive success at the Argentinian box office, bringing in $34 million worldwide. This animated movie had on the likes of Bella Thorne, Shawn Mendes, Katie Holmes, and Ariana Grande.

The movie was awarded a 67 percent rating by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 38 percent rating on Metacritic.

6. iCarly (2011)

In this Nickelodeon tv series, Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) is just another ordinary teenager who teams up with two of her friends Freddie Benson (Nathan Kress), and Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy), to create her own web show called “iCarly”,  while living with her brother Spencer Shay (Jerry Trainor). The show, which she produces in the attic of her home eventually earns her online celebrity status, forcing her into a life where she has to deal with the celebrity lifestyle alongside her own adolescence. The show aired for 5 seasons from 2007 to 2012.

While the show was not rated by Rotten Tomatoes critics, it did get a 2 ½ star from About.com, and 3 stars from Common Sense Media. It did, however, receive generally positive reviews from audiences. Ariana Grande only appeared in one episode of the series, a 90-minute crossover special in 2011, as Cat Valentine.

7. Snowflake (2013)

In the second Ariana Grande animated movie on our list, the actress and singer voiced the lead character – Snowflake, a white gorilla in this movie. Snowflake tells the story of the world’s only white gorilla who is the center of attraction to the visitors at the zoo where she resides. However, she is all too aware of how different she is and yearns to be like every other gorilla. So she plans to escape the zoo in search of the cure to her uniqueness.

Other actors in the movie included David Spade (Ailur), Keith David (Anvil), and Jennette McCurdy (Petunia). The film did not do well at all and received generally negative ratings from critics and audiences. The audience gave it an abysmal rating of 22 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a rating of 4.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb.

8. Winx Club (2011)

Winx Club is an Italian animated series that was part-produced by Nickelodeon. The series, which began in 2004, is set in a magical world complete with everything from fairies to witches as well as a host of other magical creatures.

The series is a mash of Western animation and Japanese anime and follows the life and adventures of Bloom, a fairy warrior as she seeks to hone her skills at Alfea College. Grande joined the series in a recurring capacity in 2011, voicing the role of Princess Diaspro. She was on the series for a total of 5 episodes.

The series was a rating’s success in its early days in countries like Italy, Belgium, and France. It continued this trend in September 2011, when it launched on Nickelodeon UK.

9. Swindle (2013)

Next on our list of Ariana Grande movies is this made-for-television film Swindle. It tells the story of a boy, Ben Dupree (Chris O’Neal), who finds an antique baseball card in the basement of his house. Not knowing the value of the card, he is persuaded by his friend Griffin Bing (Noah Crawford) to sell it. They sell it for a ridiculous $350 only to discover the following morning that the card’s real value is $1.2 million. This leads Griffin, Ben, and a few of their friends to plan an elaborate heist to steal the card back from the collector who swindled them.

Ariana plays the role of Amanda Benson, a gymnast who is part of the heist team along with the characters played by Jennette McCurdy, Noah Munck, and Ciara Bravo. The movie received generally positive reviews, gaining 4 out of 5 stars on Common Sense Media, and 6.4 out of 10 stars on IMDb.

10. Zoolander 2 (2016)

Everything seemed to be going well for this movie – the cast, the shooting location, and the success of its predecessor Zoolander, which was made in 2001. However, this Ariana Grande movie fell alarmingly short of the success of the first installment.

Even with a blockbuster cast which included Penelope Cruz, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, and Will Ferrell, the movie barely broke even, making a disappointing box office return of $56 million from a $55 million production cost. It received a 22 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even lower 20 percent rating from the audience. Thankfully, Grande’s role in the film was only a simple cameo, as she played a character referred to simply as “latex BDSM”.
