He was born Austin Harris Mahone in San Antonio, Texas to Michele Lee (née Demyanovich) and Charles Edgar Mahone on April 4, 1996. He was raised by his single mother following the death of his father 18 months after his birth. The music powerhouse is a product of combined ancestry which includes English, French, German, and Slovak.

Austin developed a passion for music as a child and took to exploring the world therein. He learned guitar, drums, and keyboard on his own, and to show the world he has something to let them in on, the young Austin debuted on YouTube in 2010. Mahone uploaded amusing sketches and impressive covers of popular songs and gradually, started building a fan base that has grown incredibly over the years.

He attended Lady Bird Johnson High School in San Antonio but with an increasing demand on his time and growing popularity, he left after his freshman year to become homeschooled. In turn, his mother took a break from her mortgage banking job to become her son’s teacher and manager.

In no time, record labels came knocking, and in August 2012, he signed a deal with  Chase/Universal Republic Records.

He released his first single, 11:11 to iTunes on February 14, 2012, which has been followed by a slew of others. They include Say You’re Just a Friend featuring rapper Flo Rida which was followed by a piano version, Say My Name, Places, Waiting For This Love, Someone Like You, Torture, Do It Right, On Your Way, Not FarPut It On Me, Send It, Way Up, and Creatures of the Night. The songs were released for free download through his official SoundCloud page.

In 2013, he released his debut EP, Extended Play though only in Japan. The other two include The Secret (2014) which featured the lead single Mmm Yeah and Oxygen EP (2018). His musical career also boasts of mixtapes, This Is Not the Album (2015),  ForMe+You (2016) featuring the lead single, Lady, and a full-length studio album, Dirty Work (2017).
