How Did Billy Bush and Sydney Davis Meet and Why are They Getting Divorced?

The original concept of marriage is for a man and a woman to come together, start a family, and live happily ever after forever. As time has gone by, the institution has given room for either party involved to opt out and leave if they are aggrieved or betrayed. With grievance and betrayal giving wide room for one to come up with any reason at all, the dissolution of marriage, otherwise known as divorce, has become the order of the day regardless of the extent to which there was a reason to do so. One of the many couples in recent time to have gone through a divorce is Billy Bush and Sydney Davis. Read on to find out why exactly the pair decided to call it quits, as well as details of their once beautiful marriage.

How Did Billy Bush and Sydney Davis Meet?

Billy Bush and Sydney Davis were married for twenty years before they decided to call time on their union. While it is not exactly clear when the two first met each other, they tied the knot in April 1998, the time during which Bush was working for WWZZ-FM (Z104) in Washington, D.C. as the host of Billy Bush and the Bush League Morning Show.

Without wasting any time, the lovebirds who were in their late twenties decided to start a family and thus welcomed their first daughter, Josie, to the world. While the exact day of her birth is not known, it is public knowledge that she was born in the same year her parents got married.

In the following years, Billy Bush moved from presenting radio shows to becoming a very popular face on television. He first joined Access Hollywood as the newsmagazine’s East Coast correspondent before rising to become co-anchor in 2004. During that time, Bush also held other roles, including being a correspondent for WNBC-TV’s Today in New York morning show.

By the late 2000s, Billy Bush and Sydney Davis had welcomed two more children; daughters Mary and Lillie. The girls were born at the height of their father’s career who was slowly becoming the go-to man for hosting red carpet events and pageant shows. Bush co-hosted the 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2009 Miss Universe pageants as well as 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2009 Miss USA pageants. He also hosted ABC’s live pre-show on the red carpet for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Academy Awards.

While Billy Bush was slowly becoming one of the well-known faces on TV, his wife put all her attention to raising their children, something that Bush says he is eternally grateful for. The couple lived in Los Angeles, California where their marriage flourished despite all the distractions that came with her husband’s job.

Why Are They Getting Divorced?

Billy Bush and Sydney Davis appeared to have been very happy in their marriage until a video that recorded her husband having a lewd conversation with Donald Trump surfaced in October 2016.

In the recording, Trump, who was himself married to Melania at the time, tells Bush about an attempt to have sex with a woman even though she was married. The woman in question was Bush’s then co-host on Access Hollywood, Nancy O’Dell. As the conversation continues, Trump talks about him groping women, saying “you just kiss. When you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything.” Following the statement, Bush replied by asking, “anything you want?” to which Trump replied; even “grab them by the pussy”.

The conversation was reported to have infuriated Davis who according to reports, stopped speaking to her husband for a while. When Bush released a statement apologizing for his comments, he added that he has apologized to his wife as well and that she was very supportive of him. Time proved this to be false as it was later revealed that the pair would be spending some time away from each other to evaluate their life together.

After spending close to two years away from each other, the once happy couple decided to go their separate ways, with Sidney Davis filing for divorce from Billy Bush on the 15th of July, 2018. She cited irreconcilable differences as her reason as she asked the court to grant joint legal custody but primary physical custody to her for two of their younger children. In September 2019, it was announced that their divorce proceedings have been finalized.
