Brandon Tyrone Marshall was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and grew up in Florida. He was born on March 23, 1984, and attended Lake Howell High School in Florida. Marshall was a three-time letterman for his high school’s basketball and track team. He performed gloriously in both sports earning All-State honors for basketball and winning the Class 3A triple jump championship in track.
Brandon moved on to the University of Central Florida where he played as a wide receiver and improved with every season. In his senior year, he was named to the All-C-USA second team.
College Career – Denver Broncos
The former UCF player was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. However, he suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury during the preseason, causing him to be involved in only 15 games of the regular season.
His second season with Broncos started again with an injury – a groin strain and later pulled a quadriceps femoris muscle – that kept him away from all but the last few days of training camp from May through July.
However, Brandon came back strong and posted effective performances against the likes of the Minnesota Vikings and the San Diego Chargers. He ended the season with 102 interceptions, 1325 receiving yards, and 7 receiving touchdowns, the highest for anybody in his team and a personal career-best.
For the next season, Brandon Marshall continued in his injury pattern when he suffered an injury to his right forearm in a family altercation in March 2008. He required surgery and was out of the game until he returned to training in late June. Marshall endured a one-game spell on the sidelines and a $52,000 fine after he was brought up on charges of drunk driving and domestic violence in August 2008.
After the suspension, Marshall came back to make his mark on the season, posting stellar records again: 104 interceptions and 1265 receiving yards. He was voted the top AFC wide receiver in the 2009 Pro Bowl.
Brandon went under the knife again in March 2009 to fix a hip problem that had discomforted him throughout the 2008 season. During the season, he posted a career-high 200 receiving yards in a single game, was named an AFC Offensive Player of the Week, and a Pudding Pie Award for a game against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day.
Post-Denver Broncos
Marshall was traded to the Miami Dolphins in the 2010 NFL Draft and signed a four-year $47.5 million dollar extension in the 2011 NFL Draft. In 2010, his streak of 100 or more receptions came to an end although he still achieved 1000 receiving yards for his two seasons with the Dolphins.
Brandon Marshall signed for the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2012 season and spent seasons there. While at Chicago, he broke Marcus Robinson’s franchise record for most receiving yards recorded in a single campaign. He also became the first player in Bears history to record a season with 100 receptions or more, and the first in NFL history (along with Andre Johnson and Wes Welker) to record five 100 or more reception seasons.
He continued his fine form into the 2015 season after putting pen to paper for the New York Jets. Here, he became the first NFL player ever to record a 1000 receiving yard season with four different teams. The end of the 2015 season also saw him ranked on the No. 25 spot on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2016.
Moving on from the Mets, he joined the New York Giants in a two-year $12 million deal. However, he suffered a season-ending injury barely a month into his career with the Giants. Unfortunately, he was let go by the Giants on April 9, 2018.
On May 29, 2018, he was subsequently picked up by the Seattle Seahawks in a one-year $2 million deal.
