The name Brett Ambler does not readily come to mind when putting together a list of child celebrities. But for people who grew up in the 80s and early 90s, it might ring a bell. A far, distant ringing bell though. Brett Ambler starred in a commercial for the company Melissa and Doug, a toy company.
The advert bore the title Special Friends: Starring You On Kazoo. It was shot in 1989 and gained Brett the nickname Kazoo Kid. However, besides a couple more stints at career development, Brett was forgotten as time went by. He is, unfortunately, among the promising child stars that sadly never hit the heights of their contemporaries.
The video of the Kazoo commercial resurfaced sometime in 2016 and was used by DJs in song remixes and on social media as a meme. This sort of gave the Kazoo Kid a new lease on life as people started trying to find out who the kid was and what he was presently up to.
Brett Ambler Bio, Age, Family
Brett Ambler, also known as Kazoo Kid was born on December 8, 1984, in Redding, Connecticut where he was raised. It is not known whether Brett had always harbored the dream of being an actor or an entertainer in any capacity, but the Kazoo commercial seemed to be a move in the right direction.
He decided to attend an audition for a commercial that was to be centered around a toy company’s first-ever product. He attended as imagined with a lot of other kids and won the spot in the end. The approximately 30 minutes long commercial was shot in 1989. It was about a kid who found some random friends and started playing an instrument called the Kazoo with them. Brett Ambler was just eight years old at the time.
In the 90s, Brett Ambler played two voicing roles. The first was titled Best Silly Stories and Songs Videos Ever. The second was titled If I Ran A Zoo. He remains an actor in a somewhat passive capacity. He played a role as Buddy Holly in the Buddy Holly story production in Colorado.
Brett Ambler Height and Quick Facts
So how exactly did the Kazoo Kid make it back into the limelight? It was a series of events that started back in 2011.
In March of 2011, a segment of the You On Kazoo video was uploaded on YouTube by a YouTuber Jim VanBlarium. Three years later, a YouTube channel called the Dead VCR posted a refurbished version of the episode on YouTube. Over the next two years, the video would garner over half a million views and over 2000 comments.
The spread continued when Redditor Mikesicle in October of 2015, posted the video and it garnered 99 percent upvotes (420 votes) and about 60 comments in a three-month period. A techno remix using the audio from the commercial also surfaced on SoundCloud, posted by user Florian Olsson.
Other YouTube users named Grant NOT The Flash Gustin and Gumble Dog put up two editions of the video three weeks apart in November 2015. Its true moment of fame finally came on January 20th, 2016 when the Hood Vines Facebook page got a hold of it. Their post of the video, in 24 hours, collected over 2 million views and 38,000 shares.
By this time, Brett’s identity had already been uncovered by Redditor “grahamthefalcon” on October 25th, 2015. By December 2015, Ambler responded to a tweet confirming that he was the kid from the commercial.
After his identity had been found out, he was badgered with questions on Facebook regarding the commercial and his childhood. Through his responses to these questions, it was discovered that it was his elementary school teacher that had informed his class about the auditions. He remembers that the producers were impressed by his ability to act silly on camera and be comfortable doing it.
He also explained the weirdness in the audio of the commercial, explaining that all the male voices were dubbed. All the female voices were dubbed by the producer, Melissa. Brett as it turns, according to his admission, can still play the kazoo excellently. This resurgence saw many people go out and buy a kazoo for themselves. This started a “kazoomania” that lasted for a while. The buzz also re-connected with some of the other kids who were part of the cast.
Brett also revealed that he is still involved in acting and music. As of February 2016, he revealed that he was working on a children’s play production on Junie B. Jones. On a lighter note, he talked about his favorite song on Kazoo saying he would be willing to have a “kazoo jam session” with anyone who was willing.
Information such as height and weight is not known for Brett Ambler. It is known however from his admission and pictures online that his hair is curly and brown and so are his eyes.
