Brian Cushing was born in Park Ridge, New Jersey on 24th January 1987. His mother (Antoinette Cushing) and father (Frank Cushing) were born in Germany and Bayonne, New Jersey respectively. He was raised together with his two siblings, a brother (Michael) and a sister (Michelle) in New Jersey.
As a child, Cushing trained in Park Ridge and led his high school team, the Crusaders, to victory in the 2004 Group IV State Championship. As he was very exceptional he was named North Jersey Player of the Year (2004).
Top colleges scurried to recruit the obviously skilled Footballer but he settled for the University of Southern California. From 2005 to 2008, he played under Pete Carroll (Head Coach) in the USC Trojans football team as no.10 (which he shared with John David Booty till 2007).
