Brit Hume is an American TV journalist as well as a political analyst whose career with ABC News, spanned a period of 23 years. At ABC, he reported to World News Tonight in collaboration with Peter Jennings. He also worked as the Chief White House Correspondent of ABC for 7 years and went on to spend 12 years working in Washington, D.C. for the Fox News Channel where he anchored the program Special Report with Brit Hume. Brit Hume’s Bio
Brit Hume was born on the 22nd of June 1943 in Washington, D.C, christened Alexander Britton Hume. He is the son of George Graham Hume and Virginia Powell Hume. By means of his paternal lineage, Brit is partly Scottish. He schooled at St. Albans School, Washington, D.C., at the same period as former US vice president, Al Gore and emerged as a graduate from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, earning a bachelor’s degree in English in 1965.
Career In Journalism
Hume first worked for Hartford Times newspaper before moving on to gain further work experience at the United Press International. In 1970, he got the opportunity to work with Jack Anderson for two years. Anderson went on to publish a number of classified articles which indicated that the Nixon regime had favored Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. After this exposition, Anderson, his staff, including Brit Hume and his family, were briefly placed under surveillance by the CIA in the year 1972.
The documents which were released during President Ford’s regime made possible by the hearings of the US Congress in conjunction with Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. This resulted in Brit Hume becoming the editor of a Washington press of a criticism journal named More Magazine.
Subsequently, by 1973, Brit moved on to work as an ABC consultant. In 1976, he landed a new role as the correspondent involved in covering the activities occurring in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate for a period of 11 years. He got his first Academy Award nomination for his ABC’s Close-Up documentary program in 1979. Hume was then assigned the task of reporting the presidential campaign of Walter Mondale in 1984 as well as that of in 1988. The following year, he was promoted to the role of ABC’s chief White House correspondent, where he was tasked with covering the administrations of Presidents Bush and respectively.
In 1996, Brit left ABC to join Fox News Network. At the time, his wife was newly made the Chief of the Washington Bureau. While there, Brit became the Managing Editor for Fox News Washington. After he got started at Fox News, Brit began considering starting a Washington-based television news program for the 6 p.m. timeslot. Considering the Lewinsky scandal which began in January 1998, and Brit’s wife suggested to him that since the story was so well known at the time it would be wise for him to kick off a new show immediately and he did. Special Report with Brit Hume debuted soon after and became the number one cable news program for 6:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot for several years.
Retiring From Fox
In July 2008, it was announced that Brit would retire as anchor of Special Report at the end of the year, but he was to remain on Fox News to execute a few important roles. On the 23rd of December 2008, he hosted his final episode as anchor of Special Report, announcing that , the then chief White House correspondent for Fox News, would be his replacement. Brit also announced that he would remain with Fox News as a senior political analyst and a regular panelist for the program Fox News Sunday.
On the 3rd of January, 2010, Hume generated some controversy when on Fox News Sunday he advised golfer to convert to Christianity to bring an end to his problems. Brit’s comments were made after the revelation of Woods’ adultery scandal and the deterioration of his relationship with his family. On September 6, 2016, Hume was named the anchor of On the Record after the show’s longtime anchor, , left Fox News. He then worked as the program’s anchor through the end of the 2016 elections. Brit’s first show as host of On the Record attracted 2.4 million viewers.

Nothing much is known about Brit Hume’s first marriage to Clare Jacobs Stoner except that he is divorced from her. Before their divorce, they had a son named Sandy Hume (also known as Alexander Britton Hume Jr.) born on 2 September 1969. He worked as a reporter for The Hill newspaper and is credited to be responsible for publicizing the story of the aborted 1997 political attempt to replace the Speaker of the House, . Unfortunately, Sandy Hume committed suicide on February 22, 1998. To date, the National Press Club still honors his memory with its annual Sandy Hume Memorial Award for Excellence in Political Journalism.
In 1993, Brit Hume married Kim Schiller, who was formerly a Fox News Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief until she retired in 2006. The couple has two kids named Virginia Hume (daughter) and Louis Hume (son).
