Sports, modeling, and journalism, Britt Mchenry has done it all. However, she is best known for her career as a sports reporter. Everyone who knows a bit about Mchenry would remember that 2015 leaked clip of her bashing a towing attendant that nearly cost her her ESPN job. She was later laid off though. But Britt has long put those years behind her. These days she can be seen hosting “Like It or Not” on WTTG Fox 5 in Washington DC alongside Bram Weinstein and Guy Lambert. Britt Mchenry Biography
Brittany May McHenry was born on May 28, 1986, in Mount Holly Township, New Jersey, United States. Her father conservative Bill McHenry is an Air Force Lt. Colonel. Raised in Satellite Beach, Florida, Britt attended Satellite High School where she was an active athlete participating in softball, soccer, and basketball. However, she focused on soccer. A starter for her varsity team for four straight years, Britt was teammates with future United States women’s national soccer team goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.
After graduating from high school in 2004, Mchenry proceeded to attend Stetson University where she continued playing soccer with the varsity Hatters soccer team. She was formidable at the midfield position. By 2007 she had graduated magna cum laude.
During her college years, Britt worked a number of summer jobs including at a store that sold Tees and sandals. There, she learned to fold a T-shirt properly. At Stetson, Britt drifted from sports after having developed a passion for broadcast journalism. In her senior year, she landed an internship at ABC News in Washington.
Determined to start a professional career as soon as possible, the work-driven Mchenry graduated a semester early. In a bid to learn more about the field she had become so enamored by, Britt enrolled at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism to earn a graduate degree in journalism. Unable to afford the tuition, she obtained a students loan which she revealed she was still paying as of 2016.
Britt Mchenry graduated from Medill in 2008 after which she landed her first job at WJLA-TV, ABC affiliate in Washington. She began as a business reporter and without a camera crew learned to set up her own camera. In 2009, Britt got the leading to switch to sports and after approval by her boss, she began making her own report videos. Impressed by her works, her boss signed her to a contract as a sports reporter.
Britt would then spend the next couple of years working for ABC 7 before ESPN came calling for her services in March 2014. As a DC-based bureau reporter, Britt covered professional football, basketball, and hockey and served as a correspondent for a number of shows including SportsCenter, Outside the Lines, NFL Live and Baseball Tonight.
Britt’s career was going really well until an unfortunate occurrence about a year later in April 2015 tainted her reputation. A video of Britt ranting and using cuss words at a tow lot employee was leaked via LiveLeak. An enraged Britt was seen verbally abusing the employee attacking her physical appearance and social as well as financial status.
Following the leak, Britt took to her Twitter account to apologize for her actions, however, she was suspended for a week by her employer, ESPN, a punishment many deemed too lenient. However, the towing company in a statement accepted Britt’s apology and stated that they would not want Britt to be punished for her comments.
Though Britt fully accepted full responsibility for her actions, she noted in an interview with Marie Claire that the footage was an edited one which made it look like she was the only one doing the talking. To this day, the consequences of her action still appear to haunt her.
In April 2017 when she was among the 100 staff laid off by ESPN due to their cost-cutting, many were quick to speculate it was in relation to the viral video but an unnamed source told Fox News that it wasn’t because of it. Fox would later hire her as a correspondent and she now also works as a contributor to the right-wing online magazine, The Federalist.
In May 2018, Britt Mchenry for the first time took to Twitter to talk about the reason for her being laid-off from ESPN. She claimed that her race and conservative political views were the top reasons and in fact, she was the first one to let go. She later took the tweet down and told Deadspin website that a number of factors contributed to her firing and that she hoped to open them in a forthcoming book.
Modeling Career Before ESPN
During her time as an undergrad at Stetson, Mchenry worked many jobs in the summer. Around that same period, Mchenry pursued a modeling career. At 1.78 m tall, she sure had the height for it. She even got signed to the famous Wilhelmina Models agency. Britt has never really spoken about those days of her life. However, in 2016 after the tow attendant video had thrust her deep into the limelight, photos of her modeling gigs surfaced online.

When it comes to her personal life Britt Mchenry is hush-hush. No information about her romantic life has ever surfaced online. However, in early June 2018 when she posted a photo of herself and American tennis star Tennys Sandgren hanging out in the city of love and romance – Paris, France, many of her followers were quick to speculate that they were a thing, but it remains only but speculation.
