If there are two things that C. J Prosise of Seattle Seahawks is known for, it is his speed and power. When he runs, it actually a beauty to behold as watching him run is like watching one of those gazelles on NatGeo Wild speeding along the Savannah and then have to run over the last lion in front of the waterhole.
Prosise began his career at Notre Dame as a receiver in 2012 before switching over to the running back position in his final season. The Seattle Seahawks drafted him in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft after emerging 7th among all the running backs that attended the NFL combine with a vertical leap of 35.5 inches.
Bio of C. J Prosise
Prosise was born to Ginia and Calvin Prosise on the 20th day of May 1994 in Petersburg, Virginia as Calvin Prosise Jr. According to him, no one has ever called him by his full name he has always been called by C.J as long as he can remember. The initialS C.J was coined from Cavin and Jr.
Growing up, C. J Prosise participated in virtually every sport he came across. He recalls playing flag football when he was about four or five years old as his earliest football memory, he cited a story of how his team was on offense around midfield then there was a fumble, he ended up with the ball and guess what? C. J ran the wrong way down to the 5-yard line. He heard all the “turn around” yells from the sideline and was just in time to get turned in the right direction and when he eventually scored, it was about 50 yards back and then 100 yards forward.
He attended Woodberry Forest School, Madison County, Virginia, where he played both as a safety and wide receiver in the school’s team. Prosise was rated a three-star recruit at safety by Rivals.com. He received collegiate offers from Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Penn State, North Carolina, among others but chose to commit himself to the University of Notre Dame where he began as a receiver before switching over to the running back position in his final season.
At Notre Dame, C. J Prosise redshirted in his first year and afterward, he played thirteen games in the 2013 season as a wide receiver and ended the season with seven receptions for 72 yards. As a sophomore, he also played thirteen games, made six starts and recorded twenty-nine (29) receptions for 516 yards, 2 touchdowns, and eleven (11) tackles.
Before his junior season, he was moved to the running back position. After an injury ended Tarean Folston season, Prosise became a starter and his first start was in a game against Virginia, where he rushed for 155 yards with a touchdown. During his second game as a starter, he rushed for 198 yards, with 3 touchdowns, which included a ninety-one (91)-yard rushing touchdown that became the longest in the history of Notre Dame Stadium.
He finished his junior season rushing for 1,032 yards on one hundred and fifty-six (156) carries, that is a 6.6 average and eleven touchdowns, Then twenty-eight receptions for 308 yards and one touchdown. C. J Prosise announced he was forgoing his senior season for the 2016 NFL Draft after Notre Dame lost to Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.
NFL Career
With a vertical leap of 35.5 inches, C. J became the 7th best among all the running backs that attended the NFL combine and was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks as the 90th overall in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
In May 2016, the Seahawks signed him to a 4-year contract worth $3.11 million with a signing bonus of $692,464. His NFL debut was in a game against New England Patriots where he recorded seventeen carries for sixty-six yards with an added 87 receiving yards. Prosise would later score his first career touchdown in a seventy-two yards run in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the 11th week. That game also ended his rookie season after he suffered a fractured scapula.
The following season (2017), he was also placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury. He ended his second season rushing 23 yards, and six receptions for eighty-seven (87) yards during his injury-riddled season.
