Some people and born into football greatness while others make their case through diligence, hard work, and consistent desire. Cameron Meredith falls into the latter category. He is a National Football League (NFL) star who has been on the roster of the NFL franchise, the Chicago Bears after he joined them in 2015 as an undrafted afterthought but who has definitely proved his mettle in the league and has also established himself as a star.

The wide receiver currently plays for the New Orleans Saints who he signed for in 2018 after injuries saw him become a restricted free agent. But where did it all begin for the football maestro? We take a look at his early life, high school, and college careers which helped mold him into becoming the star he is today.

Cameron Meredith Biography

Cameron Meredith was born like every other human being on earth – on the 21st day of September 1992 – and as his mother rocked and nurtured him, little did she realize that she had a star in her arms. Born to his parents, Lonnie and Tonjua Meredith in Westchester, Illinois, Meredith’s talents and giftings in the oval brown leather game came on full display early on. His known family members are his parents and it is tough to tell if there are siblings before or after him as he has not revealed if any exist.

He had his high school education at St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois and he played football with the school team as a quarterback. He was outstanding in the game and also excelled in his academics and for his efforts, Meredith won the high school three-year letter in recognition of his phenomenal contribution to the schools’ football.

College Career

After graduating from high school in 2009, Cameron Meredith opted to enroll for his college education at Illinois State University, where he would go on to play his collegiate football for the Redbirds. He didn’t play in his first year (2010 season) at the college because he was redshirted in that season and then when he made it into the team, he was the backup quarterback, a position he had played so well in high school.

Altering his game to play as a wide receiver in his junior year meant he had more playing time with the Redbirds. He played 10 games in the 2013 season and then a further 15 games the following season where he went on to record 66 receptions for 1,061 yards receiving, with 9 touchdowns. In 2015, the now widely recognized Redbirds’ wide receiver declared to participate in the NFL Draft for that year.

However, he was snubbed and no invitation was extended to him to be part of the following NFL Combine much to the disappointment of those who had expected to see him turn pro. He took an unconventional route by participating in the Northwestern University Pro Day exercise where he caught the attention of club scouts who came to watch prospects and that is how he got recruited by the Chicago Bears to play in the NFL.

Professional Career in the NFL

Cameron Meredith was left undrafted after he was pranked by an unknown person via a phone call before the Chicago Bears came to his rescue and offered him an opportunity to still go pro with football. After being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bears in the wide receiver position, he featured for them and ended that season with 11 receptions, including his first which he got against the Arizona Cardinals in September.

He found the game time very hard to come by as he was way down the pecking order in a team that already boasted of four wide receivers competing for the starting spot. He played his first game in the 2016 season against the Dallas Cowboys and had some impressive stats. His first start of the season will come against Indianapolis Colts a little over one week later – October 9 – where he caught his first ever professional touchdown.

He would make the position his own at the expense of Kevin White and go on to have a very fantastic season. His statistics at the end of the 2016 season included four touchdowns and 66 catches for 888 yards.

Most Chicago Bears fans (including critics) must have expected a big 2017 season for Meredith coming on the back of his fantastic 2016 season but that was not to be. He suffered a knee injury – a torn ACL – in the preseason which ended his season as it kept him out the entire 2017 NFL season.

He was released by the Bears (a move which many consider a ‘mistake’ on the part of the Bears) for the 2018 season and was snapped up by the New Orleans Saints on a 2-year contract. The deal was done after the Bears failed to match the sum.

Ready and raring to go, the New Orleans Saints man cannot wait to unleash his full potential in the NFL after he had to sit out the entire 2017 season. While recuperating from the torn ACL, he never failed to keep himself in shape for the season ahead. Injuries and long layoffs have a way of disrupting the body shape of players but Cameron Meredith has done his best to maintain a fit frame.

The above would explain why he now weighs 207 lbs as against 200 lbs (before the injury). His height is measured at 1.91 m which is the metric way of denoting 6 ft 3 in. His other body measurements are not known.
