Arguably Carlos Hyde is the best running back with the FirstEnergy Stadium-based Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL). He is a product of Naples, Florida high school and the Ohio Bobcats football program from where he entered the NFL.

Right from his high school, Carlos has consistently shown signs of making it big as a football player and to this, he has lived up to expectations since then, impressing both his fans, the club’s fans and club owners with his impressive plays as a running back. Here is an account of how he got to be where he is today including what his family life was like.

The Cleveland Browns running back was named Carlos Dramome Hyde after he was born on September 20, 1990. As he came of high school age, he schooled and graduated from Naples High School where he gained recognition for playing football. At the school, Naples Daily News and the Ft. Myers News-Press named Carlos Hyde the Player of the Year for his 1,653 yards rushing with 16 touchdowns by the end of his senior season.

Carlos had before him, scholarship offers from Florida State University, University of Miami, Ohio State University, and the University of Florida. He committed to play the grid game for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team beginning from January 2010. The lad in his junior season missed 2 games due to an ankle injury but for the other 10 he played, he recorded a total of 970 yards rushed with 16 rushing touchdowns. In his senior season, he missed 3 games due to a suspension he suffered but still had a total of 1,282 yards rushed with 14 touchdowns which were good enough to get him the Associated Press first-team All-Big Ten selection and a third-team All-American.

Carlos Hyde entered the NFL as a San Francisco 49ers pick; 57th overall in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Teaming up with the 49ers, he had to prove himself better than the likes of Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, Marcus Lattimore, and LaMichael James to find a place in the team. Nevertheless, he didn’t have to work too hard as a series of injuries some of the players had seen him as a backup to Gore.

Carlos ended his first NFL season playing 12 games out of which he had 83 carries for 333 yards with four touchdowns. In his second season (2015) with the Niners, he finished the season’s campaign posting 115 carries with 470 yards and 3 deserving touchdowns, and one touchdown from a spin move. He suffered his first pro career injury this season when he fractured his foot and ended the season lying on the injury reserve list. Contrariwise, Hyde also had the best game of his career this season against the Minnesota Vikings as he scored 2 touchdowns on 168 yards on 26 carries.

He started 13 games in the 2016 season from which he had 217 carries for 988 yards and 6 touchdowns with 27 receptions for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sadly, he found himself down with an MCL injury and he sat out the rest of the season on the injured reserve list.

The Cincinnati-born footballer had an injury-free 2017 season where he played all 16 league games recording 940 rushing yards, with 350 receiving yards and 8 rushing touchdowns which is a career-high record for him.

Following his impressive contributions to the success of the San Francisco 49ers in the 4 seasons he played with them, the Cleveland Browns sought his services for three years beginning in 2018 through 2020 in a contract worth $15,250,000. The terms of the contract had with it a $3,500,000 signing bonus and $8,000,000 guaranteed. With the new contract, Carlos Hyde receives a base salary of $1,500,000 in 2018 which will increase to $3,250,000 and $4,500,000 in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Family Life

Carlos Hyde was born to Dermidra Hyde (mother) and Carlos Britton (father) who raised him up in Cincinnati, Ohio with his two sisters – Kelsey and Brittany. He first attended high school at Princeton High School in Sharonville, Ohio before his parents withdrew him and enrolled him at Naples High School where he completed his high school education and equally was active in sports notably football, basketball, and track/field. Reports also have it that he mentored elementary school children, so we can as well say he has a soft spot for kids.

There are not many details about how he grew up an all whatnot, but considering that the lad played football so well in high school and continued so in college, we can as well assume he had a wonderful childhood, sound development surrounded with good family value principles as he mentored kids while in high school.
