Born Carlos Santana on April 8, 1986, in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, the champ’s parents got divorced when he was just fifteen years old. In all, he has seven siblings, five sisters, and two brothers. After their parents divorced, the huge responsibility of being the ‘father figure’ fell on teenage Carlos who he began to cater for his siblings and mother at the tender age of fifteen. This was not an easy feat as it made him grow up faster than he should have.

He started out his career in baseball by playing with his neighbors at a time he knew next to nothing about the game. He did not know it at the time, but every little practice improved his skill and taught him things at every point. His skills whilst playing with his neighbors increased and it made him a good hitter.

Carlos’ love and high regard for his mom have never been hidden. After he got signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he received a bonus worth $75,000, from which he bought her a house. He sees her as a priority and doesn’t play around with her.

Professional Career

Santana started his baseball career in 2005 when he got signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2005. He began with their rookie-level minor league affiliate; the Gulf Coast Dodgers where he played a total of 32 games batting an amazing .295 times.

He made his first professional debut with the Cleveland Indians after the Dodgers traded him alongside John Meloan for Casey Blake in 2008. He came in as a catcher in the year 2010 and with the Cleveland series, he got into the World Series. He won a gold medal in 2013 in the World Baseball Classic and was named Cleveland’s top Prospect in both 2009 and 2010.

He beat Jim Norris’s record in 1977 by being the first Tribe player to debut hitting third.

Carlos experienced his first injury which ended his rookie year in 2010. He dislocated his left knee in a game at Fenway Park while defending home plate against Boston Red Sox base runner Ryan Kalish, he was unable to leave the field and had to be carried out.

Santana soon recovered and was back the next year with a stellar performance that saw him hit his first major league grand slam. It was a walk-off leading to the defeat of the Detroit Tigers in a game that ended at 9−5.
