His freshman year in 2004 was not all glitz and glamour on the pitch as mononucleosis made him miss a handful of games.

By the next year, Long began to show his worth with an average of 3.8 tackles per game leading his team’s defensive linemen. He recorded 46 tackles and 2 sacks. Chris led his team for quarterback pressures and joint top in pass break-ups.

In like manner, his high school jersey was also retired in his honor at St. Annes-Belfield School.

Long was drafted in the 2008 NFL Draft as the second overall by the St. Louis Rams. While with the Rams, Long decided against being presumed as a starter but rather wanted to fight for his spot on the team. His ability to play in multiple positions also made him a valuable team asset. After a long and rewarding stint both financially and on the pitch, Long left the Rams and signed a contract with the New England Patriots on May 18, 2016. His time with the Patriots brought about his first NFL championship. He left the Patriots and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 29, 2017, on a two-year contract.
