Colin O’Donoghue is an Irish actor best known for his role in ABC’s hit television show – Once Upon A Time. In the show, she played Captain Killian “Hook” Jones, a variation of the fictional character – Captain James Hook, who is the primary antagonist of the popular play by J. M. Barrie Peter Pan. He also appeared as Michael Kovak, a sceptical novice priest, in 2011’s horror film, The Rite, which also starred Anthony Hopkins, Alice Braga, Ciarán Hinds, and Toby Jones.

Colin Arthur O’Donoghue was born on the 26th of January, 1981 to Mary and Con O’Donoghue. He was born in Drogheda, County Louth, and raised in a Roman Catholic family.
Growing up, he attended schools around the area before joining Dublin’s The Gaiety School of Acting which is an Irish drama school that was founded by Joe Dowling in 1986. Joe Dowling is an Irish actor and director who started the school as a result of the insufficient full-time training for actors in Ireland. The Gaiety School of Acting runs a two-year program for actors and even offers a master’s degree in association with the University College Dublin.

Colin O’Donoghue: Career
When he began his acting work, he was involved in both television and theatre in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He starred as Norman in Home For Christmas, which landed him the Irish Film and Television Award for “Best New Talent” in 2003. He was later cast in the third season of the hit Showtime show, The Tudors, as Duke Philip of Bavaria. His Hollywood debut was in the aforementioned film, The Rite. To get the role in The Rite, he filmed his audition tape in his friend’s home studio. Speaking honestly, making your Hollywood debut opposite Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of the best ways to make your mark. The film was a commercial success and was generally well-received, especially among the Catholic community. However, it was not a critical success, holding a 21% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Shortly after, he began playing Killian Jones/Captain Hook in the second season of Once Upon A Time, the hit fantasy television series on ABC. His character was immediately a favorite for fans and he garnered himself a loyal fanbase. His stay on the show extended for a few more years.
In 2014, he joined the cast of The Dust Storm as the main character, Brennan – a musician. The Dust Storm, which was released in 2015, was an independent film set in Nashville, Tennessee, and was directed by Ryan Lacen and Anthony Baldino.
Beyond acting, Colin O’Donoghue is also a musician and he is a member of the band The Enemies as a singer and guitarist. The band was formed in Ireland in 2003 by Colin and Ronan McQuillan, a close friend of his. The band released their first EP in 2011. Shortly after, their debut album followed. Though they remained unsigned, they still worked on music for General Motors and Coca-Cola.
Unfortunately, in 2013, Colin announced he was leaving the band as a result of conflicting schedules with his hit show – Once Upon A Time.

Colin O’Donoghue got married in 2009 to a schoolteacher, Helen. Colin and Helen are childhood sweethearts and have been together since they were eighteen. They grew up in neighboring towns in Ireland which is how they met.
They got married shortly after his appearance on the hit Showtime series, The Tudors, which also starred Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Henry Cavill, Sam Neill, Henry Czerny, Annabelle Wallis, Joely Richardson, Torrance Coombs, Sarah Bolger, and Natalie Dormer.
Colin and Helen have two children together: a son – Evans, who was born in August 2013, and a daughter who was born in May 2017.
