There are many that try all their lives to be famous and then they die in the dark and there are those who without even trying, find themselves as stars in the skies. The second class is where you will find Colton Dixon. He is a Christian singer and songwriter who first caught the eyes of many when he was made to sing by judges at the American Idol after he accompanied his sister. Since then, he has come to be a very strong voice in the gospel music scene.
Colton Dixon Bio (Age)
It was on October 19, 1991, that the singer was born as Michael Colton Dixon in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was raised here in a middle-class family alongside his sister who is also good with music.
Growing up in a devout Christian family, Colton has been singing since he was a kid in the church as a member who sang at the Saddleback Church. For his education, Dixon went to the Middle Tennessee School from where he graduated in 2009. Although he made an appearance in “Hannah Montana: The Movie”, as an extra, his calling seems to mostly be for music and not acting.
He has one of the most interesting stories of the American Idol. The first time that he made it to the American Idol was in season 10. He went to the show alongside his sister, Schyler Dixon who pressed him to also audition. Both of them passed the audition but were unfortunately eliminated early before it went any too far.
Naturally, that could have been the end of the road for the two, but it was not for Schyler who decided to go again for the 11th season. This time around, she was the only one who went to audition, but her brother accompanied her. When she was in to audition, the judges got to know she came along with Colton and they invited him in. After much persuasion, he also auditioned and for a second time, the siblings made it through.
Unfortunately, Schyler did not make it beyond the Las Vegas round while to the utmost surprise of so many, Colton Dixon who had never found himself in the bottom 3 got eliminated, ending his run for the American Idol.
Even before his elimination, Dixon had already become a known name for many and that gave him a good place to begin his career. He was invited to perform at many events. In 2012, the Christian Broadcasting Network made him their guest to the White House Correspondents Dinner.
In 2013, he released his first album, A Messenger which topped the US Christian Albums weekly charts while it ended the year peaking at 9th. His next album, Anchor was released in 2014, while in 2015, he released yet another album, The Calm Before the Storm. His most recent album, Identity, was released in 2017. From 4 GMA Dove Awards nominations, Colton Dixon has 2 awards for the Best Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year for A Messenger in 2013 and Anchor in 2015.
His Wife and Family
As indicated, Colton was brought up in a Christian family by his parents, Michael Dixon, a postal worker, and Teresa Dixon. He only has a sister, Schyler Dixon.
In 2016, the gospel singer got married to Annie Coggeshall. The Murfreesboro, Tennessee native met the woman who would later become his wife in 2012 in Los Angeles. At the time, he was rehearsing for the Idol tour. From then on, the two began dating and decided that they were not going to have sex until after marriage.
In 2015, Colton who was 23 at the time, proposed to Annie Coggeshall at Disney World in Florida and of course, she said yes. They finally tied the knot in Nashville in January 2016 at an event that saw 160 guests at the Scarritt Bennett Center with an appearance by Christian singer, Steven Curtis Chapman.
After the wedding, American Idol Alum and Annie Coggeshall went off to Tahiti for their honeymoon. The couple now lives in Nashville in a home renovated by the singer.
