Courtney Love first gained superstar status in the 1990s as the lead vocalist of the multi-Grammy-nominated rock band ‘Hole’ which she formed alongside guitarist Eric Erlandson. She has equally been highly successful as a solo artist following the disbandment of ‘Hole.’ Also an established actress, the multitalented diva has a number of big-budget film credits to her name including 1999’s Man on the Moon as well as 2000s Trapped.

Throughout her long-running showbiz career which spans several decades, Courtney Love has equally gained much media attention for her highly eventful private life. The music diva has been in a number of high-profile relationships, the most notable of which was her highly-publicized marriage to the late iconic rock musician Kurt Cobain.

In late 2015, Courtney Love got together with Hollywood filmmaker Nicholas Jarecki. They are said to have met each other via mutual friends in the autumn of 2015. Despite the 15-year age gap between them, the two are said to have had an instant connection and they continued to wax strong afterward. The couple made a number of major red carpet appearances and they were also spotted together several times in public. However, they have managed to stay off the media radar in recent times.

Marriage to James Moreland

In the early years of her career, Courtney Love got together with fellow musician James Moreland, frontman of the now-defunct rock band “The Leaving Trains.’ Their relationship was poorly documented owing to the fact that Love was relatively unknown at the time. The duo tied the knot on February 14, 1989, however, their union was shortlived as it was annulled on June 15, 1989. Courtney has often described her 4-month marriage to James Moreland as “a joke”.

Billy Corgan

Right before she got together with her famous late husband Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love had a brief relationship with fellow singer-songwriter Billy Corgan, frontman of the rock band ‘The Smashing Pumpkins’. It remains unclear how they met or when the relationship actually kicked off, however, Love has made some major revelations regarding their breakup in 1991. According to the singer, she had accompanied Corgan and his Smashing Pumpkins band on a European tour, however, he refused to pay for her return flight. The relationship between the two remained strained for several years that followed, however, they eventually reconciled in 2014.

Marriage to Kurt Cobain

Courtney Love’s most notable relationship yet is her 2-year marital union to late rock musician Kurt Cobain. It has been widely reported that Love developed a crush on the rock star in 1989 after seeing him perform at a gig in Portland, Oregon. In May 1991, Love and Cobain had a much closer encounter after a Butthole Surfers concert at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Their friendship quickly blossomed in the weeks that followed as they discovered that they shared similar interests.

Afterward, things went pretty fast between the two and their relationship culminated in their getting married on February 24, 1992. Theirs was a private wedding ceremony held on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii, with only 8 people in attendance. Soon after tying the knot, the couple welcomed their first and only child, a daughter named Frances Bean Cobain, born on August 18, 1992.

Though they always appeared to be totally in love, Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain were infamous for their mutual abuse of substances especially heroin. Things began to go awry for them after Love admitted in a Vanity Fair interview that she had taken heroin while pregnant with her daughter. As a result, the couple came under intense public scrutiny including a lawsuit by the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services which declared them unfit to be parents. However, Love later denied the allegations claiming that she had been quoted out of context.

Unfortunately, Courtney Love’s marriage to Kurt Cobain came to a tragic end on April 5, 1994, following the latter’s death by suicide. Prior to his death, Cobain had exhibited suicidal tendencies on a number of occasions and as a result, his wife Love had him admitted for a drug detoxification program at the Exodus Recovery Center in Los Angeles. However, he fled the facility and returned to his home in Lake Washington Boulevard, Seattle where his dead body was discovered on April 8, 1994.

Edward Norton

Some years after the demise of Kurt Cobain, Courtney got romantically involved with Hollywood actor and filmmaker Edward Norton, whom she met in 1996 on the set of the biopic The People Vs Larry Flynt. There are unconfirmed reports that the duo got engaged during their time together, however, their romance came to an end after 4 years. The cause of their breakup remains unknown, however, the former lovers have maintained a cordial relationship as Norton is the godfather of Love’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

In addition to her well-known relationships, Courtney Love also had a brief romance with guitarist and former Hole bandmate Eric Erlandson. She has equally admitted to having had an affair with English actor and comedian Steve Coogan in 2005, a claim which has been dismissed by the latter.
