He was raised by both his parents alongside a brother Bones Harmon. But then, his parents later got a divorce and he remained with his mother.
For his education, the actor attended the Brown Deer High School and from there, he went to the Marquette University and later attended the Glendale Community College for some time.
Looking at his career, the Community star made a start with ComedySportz as a member, and it was with the group that he produced the 1996 album, Take Down the Grand Master. One of his earliest works in 1999 was Heat Vision and Jack which was a pilot he created. He went on to produce Computerman, Googas, and Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole among others.

The actor and producer have been married to actress and comedian Erin McGathy. The two dated for a rather long time before deciding to take things to the next stage by getting engaged in 2013. On 15th November 2014, they decided to make it even more official by becoming man and wife at a ceremony at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles.
McGathy who was born in 1985, has become popular for her comedy as well as works such as Community and also as the wife of Harmon.
Although her marriage to Dan was grand and highly publicized, the two were unable to hold things together for up to a year as they announced in October 2015 that they were getting a divorce. While Dan Harmon took to her Twitter to let her followers know about it, the actor took to his podcast to state it. Of course, divorce in Hollywood is nothing new, but this came as a surprise to many because the marriage was young and it was given very loud publicity.
Even as there were many speculations as regards the reason behind the divorce, there were others who felt it was just a publicity stunt. Nonetheless, as it would turn out, the divorce was for real and soon after that, Erin McGathy moved to Ireland.

For those asking if he has a girlfriend, the simple answer is that he has a new girlfriend and she is Cody Heller.
