Dario Saric was born on the 8th of April 1994 in Sibenik, Croatia. He is the son of former professional basketballers; Predrag and Veselinka Saric who influenced their son to pursue a career in the sport.

Saric began his professional basketball career at the age of 15 with the Zagreb-based club Zrinjevac which plays in the Croatian second division. After a few months with the team, his performances caught the attention of first division club Zagreb who he joined in-between the 2009-10 season although he was loaned to another Croatian club called Dubrava for much of the 2010–11 season.

In 2011 also, Saric attended, won, and was named the MVP of the Euroleague Basketball Next Generation Tournament. His career continued to progress and he was recognized as one of the brightest talents coming out of Europe, which earned him a nomination for the 2012 FIBA Europe Young Player of the Year Award. During this time, Saric was playing for another Zagreb-based club, Cibona. By the time the 2013 NBA Draft was coming up, Saric declared himself available but later retracted his declaration opting to play another season in Europe. The decision paid off as he was named the 2013 FIBA Europe Young Player of the Year when he won the Croatian National Cup and Croatian League championship.

In 2014, after declaring for the 2014 NBA Draft where he was selected with the 12th overall pick by the Orlando Magic who subsequently traded his rights to the Philadelphia 76ers, Dario Saric moved to Turkish team Anadolu Efes. He again said he wanted to continue his development in Europe for at least one more year before heading to the NBA. He, however, stayed in Europe for two years, winning the 2014 FIBA Europe Young Men’s Player of the Year before signing a contract in the NBA.

Dario Saric enjoyed an explosive first rookie season in the NBA, recording multiple 20-plus points games which earned him participation in the 2017 All-Star Weekend Rising Stars Challenge. After that event, Saric was named back-to-back Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for the months of February and March. At the end of the season, after averaging 12.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in 81 games, he came second in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
