Dave was born on January 14, 1969, in Warren, Ohio with the birth name David Eric Grohl to parents Virginia Jean Grohl and James Harper Grohl. His mother was a teacher while his father was a journalist and they are said to be of German, Irish, and Slovak descent.

During his early childhood days, his parents relocated to Springfield, Virginia but by the time he turned 7, they divorced and he ended up growing with his sister Lisa Gohl under their mother’s care.
