David Coverdale is a British-American musician, songwriter, and vocalist, notable for being a member of the hard rock band called Whitesnake. The talented rock star was previously associated with other popular band groups such as Deep Purple rock band, among others. He has equally collaborated with popular artists and released many songs since the inception of his music career. For his unparallel contributions in rock music, Coverdale was honored with a star in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

The rock star  first came into this world on the 22nd day of September 1951; he was born to British parents in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Riding of Yorkshire, England. He developed a passion for rock music right from his childhood and by the time he was fourteen, the icon started his music career in earnest. There is no much information with regards to his childhood and educational background. He belongs to the white ethnic origin and holds dual citizenship of British and American.

In the early stage of his musical career, the talented musician started performing with a local band named Vintage 67 in 1966 and two years later, he joined another group called The Government until 1972. When he left the band, he went on to become a member of Fabulosa Brothers rock band before joining the Deep Purple, another rock band, in 1973.

Professional Career

The singer saw an audition invitation by Deep Purple in a magazine in 1973, he went for the audition and it was a successful one. Joining the group, Coverdale, along with the band, released his first musical album titled Burn in 1974. The album recorded commercial success; thus, reaching the top of the UK music chat that year. The album was followed by another hit titled Stormbringer which earned gold certification in the UK and United States. Sadly, the group was dissolved in 1975, following the departure of a few members of the band. Although David tried to keep the band together, after their 1975 song titled Come Taste, The Band became less successful and finally dissolved.

After the dissolution of the band, Coverdale turned into a solo artist; hence, releasing his first solo album titled White Snake in 1977. The song, however, didn’t record much commercial success but was able to inspire the name for their new group. After his second album titled Northwinds in 1978, he formed the rock band called Whitesnake in the same year.

The Whitesnake released their first studio album titled Trouble in 1978 and it was followed by Lovehunter in 1978. David Coverdale and the band garnered international recognition in 1983 when they began touring the whole of Europe, Asia, and the UK. The group further released ten other albums including Ready and Willing, Come and Get It, Saints & Sinners, Side It In, Whitesnake, Slipe of Tongue, Restless Heart, Good to Be Bad, Forevermore, and The Purple Album.

Where Is He Now?

The talented singer has been active in the American music industry for over three decades and has released several hit albums. Prior to the 30th anniversary of their first song titled Whitesnake in 2017, Coverdale disclosed that he would be retiring from music after that. However, the singer seems to have vanished from the limelight since his Great Hits tour in 2016. Although nothing much is being heard from him and his crew, their songs are still waxing strong on the top music charts till date. He has been living in his Lake Tahoe, Nevada in the United States.

If there is one thing as popular as Coverdale’s music career, that should be his love life. The rock star has been in several relationships to date; he has also married thrice and divorced twice. His first marriage was to a German lady and his long-term sweetheart named Julia Borkowski. The couple tied the knot in 1974 and they welcomed their daughter who they named Jessica Coverdale in 1978. The couple went their separate ways shortly after their daughter was born.

His next marriage was to an American actress and comedian named Tawny Kitaen. They got married in February 1989 and barely two years after their marriage, their relationship turned sour; thus, ending in divorce in 1991. While Coverdale was married, he maintained a secret relationship with Gabrielle Jamae from 1974 to 1982. He also had a fling with a lady named Elaine Starchuk.

Five years after his divorce from Kitaen, Coverdale found love again. This time, it’s with an author named Cindy Coverdale. The pair had a brief relationship and in 1997, they tied the knot. Prior to their marriage, the amazing couple welcomed a son named Jasper Coverdale in 1996. David and Cindy have been living happily ever after for over two decades and there is no sign of marital issues or break up between them.
