The multi-talented artist is well-known for his work on the highly-acclaimed comedy-drama series Rescue Me in which he served as lead actor, co-creator, and co-producer. He also created the comedy series Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll in which he served as co-producer and lead actor.

Denis Colin Leary was born on August 18, 1957, in Worcester, Massachusetts to Irish immigrants Nora (née Sullivan) and John Leary. He is the second of his parent’s 4 children. He had his high school education at Saint Peter’s High School in Worcester after which he studied at Emerson College located in downtown Boston. Denis Leary is credited to have instituted the Comedy Workshop at Emerson College and upon completion of his studies, he was employed by the school to teach comedy writing.

He began his showbiz career as a comedian performing in several clubs around Boston. He also appeared on several TV shows including The Rascals Comedy Hour and The Late, Late Show. Leary gained prominence in the early 1990s when he headlined a series of commercials on MTV. Following his growing profile, he released the comedy albums No Cure for Cancer (1993) and Lock ‘n Load (1997). His third comedy album Merry F#%$in’ Christmas was released in November 2004.

Denis Leary’s most notable acting credits include the single-camera sitcom The Job (2001-02), as well as the comedy-drama series, Rescue Me (2004-2011), doubling as co-creator in the latter. His lead role as Tommy Gavin in Rescue Me earned him a Golden Globe nomination in 2005 and 2 consecutive Emmy Award nominations in 2006 and 2007 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Jack Leary has since ventured into acting and has appeared in films like Monument Ave. (1998), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2015).

In March 2004, Ann Lembeck Leary released the memoir An Innocent, a Broad, which chronicles the premature birth of their first child while on a vacation to England. She also has a number of novels to her name including Outtakes From a Marriage (2008) and The Good House (2013).
