Isn’t it interesting how one’s partner could be a stumbling block or even a rock of offense on one’s pathway? An African adage puts it better. It says that if you don’t go out looking for trouble, definitely your wrapper would clinch one for you. That is the case with Steve Bannon and his ex-wife, Diane Clohesy.
Bannon has been in the spotlight for a long time now. He is not only good friends with the POTUS, Donald Trump but was also his campaign chief during the election. Upon assuming office in 2017, he was handpicked by the president to become his senior counselor and White House Chief Strategist. This stirred the nation especially as Bannon does not have any prior experience in the government. Moreover, his news network has been accused of white nationalism, anti-Semitism, and misogyny. Notwithstanding, his appointment thrust him and his family into the limelight.
Prior to his appointment, he was an officer in the Navy for several years and also attended the Harvard Business School. Following his studies, he worked as an investment banker and a Hollywood producer before joining Breitbart News in 2007 as a founding member.
He has been married thrice and Clohesy happens to be his third wife. They were married from 2006 to 2009 when they finalized their divorce but he continued to offer support to his ex-wife. However, as he rose in power, his ex-wife struggled with drugs and violence. Learn all about her below including the traits that got the tabloids rolling.
Diane Clohesy Biography
Before Diane Clohesy came to the spotlight as Bannon’s wife in 2006, she has long been generating a lot of controversies. There are no records available yet about her birth details including her date and place of birth, educational information, family except her brother known as Declan. Nevertheless, it is known that she was a model prior to her marriage and emigrated from Ireland in 1990 in search of better opportunities for her career.
Even with her movement, her height proved to be an obstacle on her path to having a successful modeling career. Despite the disappointment she must have felt at the time, she proved to have quite a strong personality and gallantly pulled through. She went ahead to study marketing at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and at a time, joined the Rose of Tralee International Festival as a model.
Years later, her path would cross with Bannon’s. When it eventually did, Bannon has already married twice both of which ended in divorce although the relationship timeline is fuzzy. His first wife was Cathleen Suzanne Houff with whom he had a daughter in 1988. Following their divorce, he tied the knots in April 1995 with a heavily pregnant Mary Louise Piccard who gave birth to twin girls three days later. This second marriage would also end, rather sooner than it started after Bannon was charged with domestic violence in January 1966. Though the case was dropped several months afterward, Piccard filed for divorce at the onset of the new year.
In 2006, Diane Clohesy became Bannon’s third wife but lost the title in 2009 after their divorce. Despite the breakup, the couple continued to relate and even works together. Bannon continues to support his ex-wife both financially and in her career. Clohesy works as a director, producer, and social media manager for Breitbart News. Bannon produced some of her conservative films like The Undefeated which is a movie based on the book Going Rogue: An American Life by Sarah Palin. She is also a Tea Party activist.
Everything about Steve Bannon’s Ex-Wife
She Assaulted a Cabin Crew
Diane Clohesy was banned from flying with Aer Lingus in December 2002 after she assaulted a cabin crew who tried to stop her from consuming alcohol in flight. She was fined for assault and damages following the incident.
Diane Clohesy Attempted to Smuggle Marijuana
She has had several run-ins with the law since 2002. Another one was in 2013, four years after her divorce. According to her brother, he revealed that Clohesy has had issues with substance abuse and also has a mental illness. So, it didn’t come as a surprise, to him at least, when she tried to pass marijuana and a phone to a Miami-Dade inmate.
At that time, Bannon was still paying his ex’s rent which posed the questions of what relationship exists between the two especially as she is getting more infamous as he is becoming famous.
Diane Clohesy has also been associated with felonious men following their divorce in spite of that, Bannon continues to offer his support both emotionally and financially; a fact that her brother testifies to.
She Has a Knack for Creating Scenes and Scandals
While she was living in the Coconut Grove neighborhood, Miami, the place where Bannon rented a house for her, Diane Clohesy created situations that got the neighbors calling the police frequently. Besides their concern for her, the calls were reportedly made to report loud arguments in her home. Apparently, she also called the police to report a break-in and that her revolver was stolen from her home.
Irregular Voting Arrangement
As earlier revealed, one of the ways Bannon shows his support for his wife is by paying her rent although he never lived in any of the homes he rented for her. So, it came as a surprise in weeks leading up to the 2016 election that he reportedly registered to vote in Florida (despite working in New York) with an empty house as an address.
That empty house was once rented to his ex-wife from 2013 to 2015 and she had moved out prior to the election. The revelation came as shocking especially as Trump called for a massive investigation into baseless claims of voter fraud by Hillary Clinton‘s supporters. Also, during the election, a woman who was purported to be Clohesy was caught trying to vote for Trump twice in Iowa. When interviewed, she claimed that the elections were already rigged.
However, Tonya Edwards, a spokesperson for the Broward County Supervisor of Elections said Clohesy did not vote in the 2016 presidential election. Also, records indicate she has not cast a ballot since November 2012.
Where Is She Now?
According to her brother, Diane Clohesy now leads a far quieter life and continues to recover from drug addiction. Her most recent address was listed as 102 Governmental Center in Fort Lauderdale. Edwards revealed to New Times that the address is meant for use by homeless people, law enforcement officers, victims of domestic violence, and other protected groups whose addresses are exempt from the public record.
