He was born on March 29, 1983, in Columbus Ohio. Cerrone spent his childhood years in Denver Colorado where he had a hard time blending with fellow kids due to Attention Deficit Disorder. But he exhibited resilience even as he always got into fights with kids. At Air Academy High School where he attended, Cerrone started bull riding and went pro in the sports.
He switched to kickboxing at the age of 20 when he started training in the sport. Donald stood out in so many ways in kickboxing and Muay Thai and later went on to pursue a career in mixed martial arts. Cerrone trained with various MMA fighters at Greg Jackson’s Submission Fighting Gaidojutsu in New Mexico. He was signed to the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion and made his debut on the platform against Kenneth Alexander.
He won most of his fights in the promotion despite little controversy over his testing positive to hydrochlorothiazide, a banned diuretic in the beginning. In 2010 he was transferred alongside all WEC fighters to the UFC after a merger between WEC and UFC.
