Dove Cameron was born as Chloe Celeste Hosterman on January 15, 1996, in Seattle, Washington to Philip Alan Hosterman and Bonnie Wallace. Cameron was 8 years old when she began acting in community theater at Bainbridge Performing Arts. As a child, her dad often called her Dove or Dovey, so when he passed away in 2011, Cameron changed her name from Chloe to Dove in his honor.
At the time of her dad’s death, Dove was already in LA to better her chances of achieving her dreams of becoming an actress and a singer. “I became very passionate about [becoming an actress and singer]. I fully immersed myself,” she was said of her career.
Upon landing in LA, Dove scored small parts in TV shows like; Shameless, The Mentalist, and Malibu Country before getting her breakthrough role on Liv and Maddie. Dove capitalized on her Disney fame and simultaneously began a music career. Her cover of Imagine Dragons’ “On Top of the World” climbed to the 17th spot on the Billboard Kid Digital Songs chart. Dove made her film debut in 2015’s Barely Lethal.
She played as Maleficent’s daughter in the Disney TV film Descendants.
