Farmiga was born August 17, 1994, in Whitehouse Station, Readington, New Jersey to Ukrainian American parents Lubomyra and Michael Farmiga. Her father is a school teacher and her mother a system analyst.
She is the last of her parents’ seven children; her older sister Vera Farmiga is a Hollywood actress, director, and producer. Her other older siblings are Victor, Stephen, Nadia, Alexander, and Laryssa. Taissa attended a public school until the fourth grade when she started homeschooling.
Career
Farmiga wanted to be an accountant but decided to try her luck in acting after she was persuaded to star in Higher Ground (her older sister’s directorial debut drama). In the drama, she portrayed Corinne Walker (lead character) at the age of sixteen.
She received rave reviews from critics for her performance in the film after it premiered at the 2011 Sundance and this paved way for her in the industry as she was signed to talent agency ICM Partners afterward. That same year (2011) Taissa Farmiga landed a role as Violet Harmon in the first season of FX’s anthology series American Horror Story: Murder House.
