Heize was born on the 9th of August 1991 in Daegu and named Jang Da-Hye by her parents. She was popularly referred to as, ‘Heize”, a stage name she got for herself meaning “Making something hot”, coined from the German language. Heize comes from a Christian family consisting of her parents, her elder brother, and herself.

She is a solo vocalist, songwriter and rapper signed to Stone Music Entertainment. She came to the limelight after she appeared on the renowned South Korean rap television series, (Unpretty Rapstar). She made her debut as Heize on March 21, 2014, under the CJ E and M record label.

She made her debut with her extended play, Heize on March 21, 2014, which included a total of 6 songs under the record label CJ E and M, and has produced several other extended plays such as, And July (2016), You, Clouds, Rain (2017), Wind (2018) and a full-length album, Shes Fine (2019).

  • Why she hates lemon-flavored vitamins

Heize has been a lover of music since her childhood but her parents had been sceptical of her chosen profession and discouraged her from following the career path. However, in order to alleviate her parents’ fears and prove to them that she could do it, she excelled in all her academic pursuits in high school and even studied further at Pukyong National University.

After a while, she left her family and relocated to Yeoksamdong, Seoul, South Korea, where she is currently residing. When she got to Seoul, Heize was broke and could not depend on her parents for feeding, so, she and her friends were eating lemon-flavored vitamins which landed them in the hospital, since then, Heize developed a hatred for lemon-flavored vitamins.

Heize was confirmed to be in a relationship with a fellow South Korean singer and rapper named Crucial Star. According to reports, they had been dating for 2 years which they both kept secret but later came to the open and confirmed they separated a couple of years after they started the relationship.

  • Awards and nominations

Because of her beautiful and unforgettable performances, Heize has been nominated in different award categories and has won many accolades for herself. Some of the awards include the 19th Mnet Asian Music Award under the Best Vocal Performance (Female Solo – 2017) and also under the Best Hip Hop and Urban Music category. In 2018, she won the Rhythm and Blues Discovery of the year category at the 7th Gaon Chart Music Awards, among several others.

Heize released her long-awaited song in July 2019, a collaboration she did with a member of the South Korean idol group (BTS), named Suga. The song which they titled, “We Don’t Talk Together“, is based on lovers in a relationship who no longer relate well but still have strong feelings for each other, even though they do not know how to get back together. Although Suga did not participate in the singing, he wrote and produced the song together with Heize. The song achieved so many successes in the K-Pop sphere and all over the globe.
