He manages to evade his first opponent but that changes when the love of his life, his ex-girlfriend Nova (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is abducted.

1. Guns Akimbo: Cast And Crew
The movie was written and directed by Jason Lei Howden and it stars Harry Porter’s Daniel Radcliffe, Australian Crouching Tiger actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Home and Away star, Samara Weaving. Radcliffe was announced to be starring in the film in May 2017 but Bordizzo did not join the cast until after a year, in May 2018.
Felipe Marino and Joe Neurauter were also confirmed to be producing the film for Occupant Entertainment in May 2017. They were joined by independent New Zealand producer, Tom Hern and production companies Hyperion Entertainment and Altitude Films. Other actors that play notable roles in the film are Ned Dennehy, Grant Bowler, Edwin Wright, and Rhys Darby.

It was released at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2019, to mostly positive reviews. Holding an approval rating of 71% based on 17 reviews on the film review platform, rotten tomatoes, and an IMDB rating of 7.2 out of 10. Variety’s Dennis Harvey says anybody that has an attention span above ADD levels is likely to find Guns Akimbo undeniably slick.
About the film, The Hollywood Reporter’s John DeFore says it is an exhausting but not exhilarating film that will leave many bizarro-action fans wanting more. Alex Hudson with the TIFF review website compared Guns Akimbo to The Hunger Games, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Ready Player One, calling it a fun shoot-em-up packed with loads of action.
3. Guns Akimbo To Do Better Than Deathgasm
Guns Akimbo is the New Zealand filmmaker, Jason Lei Howden’s second major movie, following his 2015 horror comedy movie Deathgasm – not counting his short films The Light Harvester (2014), Veil (2011), and Melodies of the Heart (2010).
Deathgasm won the Jury Prize for Best Film at the 2015 Molins film festival and it bagged him the Festival Prize for Best Director at the 2015 Knoxville Horror Film Fest as well as an Audience Award nomination for Best Narrative Feature at the Sydney Film festival in the same year, among several other accolades. We can only wait and see, but Guns Akimbo seems on track to perform even better than its predecessor.

Jason Lei Howden is credited in almost everything that has to do with film making, making him a sort of Jack of all acting trades. Apart from writing and directing, he is credited as an actor in his short film, Melodies of the Heart as well as for special effects, as Production Designer, and even as Miscellaneous crew.
However, most of his credits are under Visual effects, he has worked as a visual and digital effects artist, compositor, and rotoscope and digital paints artists on several films including but not limited to Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), The Avengers (2012), Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012) Romeo and Juliet: A Love Song (2013), The Wolverine (2013), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).
