Hines Ward was born as Hines Edward Ward Jr. on March 8, 1976, in Seoul, South Korea. For his ethnicity, while his father is African-American, his mother is Korean and because of that, he has always been very close to the Korean culture and people.
It was there in Seoul that he began his life with his mother until he was a year old when she finally decided they had to leave, fearing the xenophobic challenges that her son would later face.
Having left Seoul, Hines and his mother settled in the United States in Atlanta whereas a single mother, she took up many jobs to train him. It was there in Atlanta that he was brought up.
For his education, Ward attended the Forest Park High School and from here, he moved to the University of Georgia.
He played for the University of Georgia Bulldogs from 1994 to 1997 and in 1998, he made the NFL Draft and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers for which he would continue to play until the end of his career in 2011.
