As a household name in the English movie industry, Holliday Clark Grainger has proven her worth as a screen and stage actress. She has become famous for her roles in BAFTA’s award-winning children’s series, Roger, Showtime’s series, The Borgias, and Mike Newell’s Great Expectations. However, she was also prominent for her role in the 2015 movie, Cinderella and The Finest Hours in 2016. Most recently, she is the star cast in Animals, a movie released in January 2019.

Biography of Holliday Grainger

Born on March 27, 1988, in Didsbury, Manchester, England Holliday Grainger was unfortunate to be caught up in the traumatic experience of having her parents separated. As a result of the separation, she was raised by her mom, Jan who was a graphics designer. Her work was lucrative enough to raise money for Holliday’s education and upkeep.

Growing up was not exactly fun, but Holliday managed to enjoy some privileges. Regardless of her mom’s financial status, she was still able to take piano, ballet, gymnastics, and martial arts classes.

She attended Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury, Manchester between 1999 and 2006. After High School, she went on to study English Literature at the University of Leeds. Her passion for acting led her to enter the Open University. Grainger graduated with a First Class Honors Degree. To complement her acting skills, she took dancing lessons from the Madeley School of Dancing.

She Forayed into Acting at the Age of 5

Holliday Grainger’s acting career began quite early when she was just 5 years old. She made this debut in the comedy-drama series, All Quiet on the Preston Front. She appeared in four episodes of this series that aired on BBC in 1994. Grainger went on to play specific roles in Casualty, Doctors, Dalziel and Pascoe. Her roles as Sophia in Merlin, Stacey Appleyard in Waterloo Road, and Megan Boothe in Where the Heart Is, stood her out as an actress to reckon with.

Her career further skyrocketed in 2011, when she played Lucrezia Borgia in the TV series, The Borgias. The series created by Niel Jordan, an Oscar award-winning producer, showed for just three seasons, with Jeremy Irons playing the role of Pope Alexander VI. The movie exposed her to the American audience.

Her role as Emily in The Scouting Book for Boys was quickly succeeded by a role as one of the Rivers sisters alongside and in Jane Eyre, as retold by Cary Fukunaga in 2011. Alongside and , she was given a minor role in Bel Ami.

First Lead Role – 2011’s Great Expectations

Her first lead role came in June 2011, when she played Estella in Mike Newell’s movie, Great Expectations. The movie also featured the likes of and Jeremy Irvine and premiered in Canada (at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival) and the UK (as the closing night movie of the BFI London Film Festival on September 2012).

In 2013, Holliday Grainger was cast in Luke Bailey’s play, Disassociation, at the Lowry. She also featured in Bonnie & Clyde, a mini-series done in 2013, where she played Bonnie Parker. The year climaxed for her as she was one of the leading acts in The Riot Club, alongside . The movie was adapted from the play Posh.

Other great movies that she has starred in include: Three Sisters (2014), Cinderella (2015) as Anastasia Tremaine, Tulip Fever (2015), The Finest Hours (2016), and Strike (2017).

Holliday Grainger has Dated her Share of Celebrities

For someone who grew up in a broken home, Grainer has also had her fair share of relationship breakups. In 2007, she met Luke Bailey and they dated for years and parted ways in 2011. After that episode, she found herself in a relationship with Canadian actor, Francois Arnaud not long after. The relationship barely survived a year. She broke up with Francois and started dating English actor, Harry Treadaway. They’ve been dating ever since.

Having been in the entertainment industry since the age of 5, Grainger has garnered enough nominations and paychecks to maintain her relevance. Holliday Grainger is estimated to be worth about $5 million.
