Hugh Laurie is a British actor who for many, is simply Dr. Gregory House from the hit series, House. The multi-award-winning actor has remained a very interesting figure in Hollywood for the many movies that he has been a part of, the most popular of which include Sense and Sensibility.

He also doubles as a comedian and member of the Fry and Laurie comedy group, a musician, author, and director.

On 11 June 1959 was when the actor was born James Hugh Calum Laurie in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, England. He was raised alongside an elder brother and 2 sisters by a mother whom he didn’t have the best relationship with, and a father who was a sportsman and an Olympic gold medallist.

Of Scottish descent, Laurie attended the Dragon School in Oxford before he proceeded to Eton College and later, Selwyn College, Cambridge in the same line with his father who was a physician. While in school, he decided to take to rowing, and this saw him joining Britain’s Youth Team for the Junior World Rowing Championships of 1977. Together with his partner, J. S. Palmer, Laurie won a silver medal at the Silver Goblets & Nickalls’ Challenge Cup of 1980.

His path in rowing was interrupted as a result of glandular fever, and this was what dragged him into seeking to be an actor when he first joined the Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club. It was there that he would meet people like Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry. Although he went on to be a part of some significant productions before he graduated, his first known work was The Cellar Tapes which was in his final year and with people such as Fry and Thompson.

His career would go on from 1981 to cover many years that would see him acting in movies and TV shows as well as playing voice roles for animations, documentaries, and releasing music albums and singles. Among the movies, he has been a part of are The Night Manager, House, and Veep.

Almost 30 years after getting hooked, the actor and his wife have three children, Charles Archibald Laurie who was born in 1988, William Albert Laurie (1991), and Rebecca Augusta who was born in 1993.

Before dating Jo Green, Laurie had dated British actress and screenwriter, Emma Thompson. The two were in a relationship that lasted from 1978 to 1982 when they both decided to go their separate ways.

Although it seems as Laurie and Jo Green have always had a great marriage life, it is somewhat far from that. Laurie who was regarded to have attained a status of a sex symbol in the movie industry once had a relationship with Film director, Audrey Cooke. The relationship spanned from 1997 to 1998, but soon after the relationship became open, he returned repentantly to his family and wife who wrote a letter to Cooke to leave her husband alone. That was how the marriage was able to survive.

The actor forced himself after the event to get help for his depression which has been linked to being the reason behind his affair with Audrey.
