The NBA guard was born Ian Patrick Clark in Memphis, Tennessee on March 7, 1991. He is of African-American origin and his parents are Jon Clark (father) and his wife Shelbia Clark. He grew up in Memphis where he attended Germantown High School situated in Germantown, Tennessee. While he was there, Clark was lettered in basketball for four years. He was an above-average player as well as a multi-dimensional guard for the Red Devils team.

Clark led his school team in scoring points during his last three high school seasons; thus, averaging 5.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 23 points per game. Throughout his high school basketball career, Clark was earned All-Metro Team selection three times and in his senior year; he got Tennessee All-Region Team honors. In his final college season, Clark had an average of 2.4 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 18.2 points per game. At the end of his college career, he was named the Defensive Player of the Year while he was also a co-recipient of the OVC Player of the Year award.

During the NBA Draft of 2013, Ian Clark was not drafted because he didn’t reach the height standard for NBA shooting guard players. After the draft, he joined the Miami Heat for the NBA Summer League and later led the Golden State Warriors to win the Las Vegas Summer League. He scored a total of 33 points and was named the MVP of the League. Subsequently, Clark signed with the Utah Jazz on a two-year contract.

In the 2013/14 season, Ian Clark shared his time between the Jazz and their G-League affiliate Bakersfield Jam. In 2015, he was assigned to the Idaho Stampede and recalled in March. He was further waived by the Jazz at the end of March 2015. Afterward, he was recruited by the Denver Nuggets and in September 2015, he signed with the Golden State Warriors.

Joining the Warriors, playing alongside Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson, among others, Clark led the team to the 2016 NBA Finals; however, they lost to the Cavaliers in seven games. Clark averaged 1.0 assists and 3.6 points per game that season. The following year, he signed a contract extension with the Warriors. For the second time consecutively, Clark led the Warriors to the NBA Finals; this time, they defeated the Cavaliers with a 4-1 record to clinch the title. He had an average of 1.2 assists and 6.8 points per game.

In August 2017, Ian Clark signed with the New Orleans Pelicans, and after the 2017/18 season; he notched 1.5 assists and 7.4 points per game. In 2018, Clark was given a contract extension by the Pelicans.
