Amethyst Amelia Kelly was born on June 7, 1990, in Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, Australia. However, she was raised in Mullumbimby, New South Wales. She derived the stage moniker “Iggy Azalea” from the name of her childhood dog and the street she grew up on. Her father Brendan Kelly is a visual artist while her mother Tanya earned a living by cleaning hotels and holiday homes. Having started rapping at the age of 14, Iggy Azalea tried forming a girl group with 2 other girls from her neighborhood.
