Cecily Strong is just one of many amazing and talented comedians who have had Saturday Night Live as a launching pad for their careers. The show, which is an American late-night live television variety show, has been on the air for decades and has received many awards and accolades. Who is Cecily Strong?
Cecily Legler Strong was born in Springfield, Illinois on the 8th of February, 1984, but she was raised in Oak Park, Illinois. Born to Penelope and William ‘Bill’ Strong. Cecily, whose parents are now divorced, grew up as a huge fan of Saturday Night Live as a child. She spent a lot of her time watching old Saturday Night Live commercials and reenacting some of the sketches with a friend.
Cecily attended Oak Park and River Forest High School before making the transfer to Chicago Academy for the Arts for her senior year. She graduated in 2002 and went on to study acting at the California Institute of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater in 2006. Upon her graduation, she returned to Chicago where she studied at the Second City Conservatory. She also studied at iO Chicago, an improv theater and training center.
Her comedic genres include improvisational comedy, sketch comedy, blue comedy, and satire.
Career
After her graduation from CalArts, Cecily Strong performed regularly at The Second City and iO Chicago. Before joining SNL, she performed on a cruise ship with her fellow Second City members for four months. She has also appeared at various live performances such as the Chicago Sketch Fest, Chicago Just for Laughs, New York Sketchfest, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and she once performed with the all-female improv troupe, Virgin Daiquiri.
On September 15, 2012, Cecily debuted as a featured entertainer on Saturday Night Live. Along with Seth Meyers, she anchored the recurring Weekend Update segment of the live show. She also co-anchored with Colin Jost before she was replaced at her behest to focus on sketches as part of the SNL regular cast.
On Saturday Night Live, Strong has played various characters in different sketches, including characters like an extremely ditzy, unintelligent and unnamed pseudo-activist known as ‘The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party’, Kyra from ‘The Girlfriends Talk Show’, Cathy Anne – the drug-addicted neighbor of Michael Che who has strong opinions on current events, Heather – the One-Dimensional Female Character from a Male-Driven Comedy, Gemma – a British woman with various boyfriends, among others.
Aside from playing written characters in a sketch, Cecily is also known for celebrity impressions on Saturday Night Live. She’s done impressions of a host of celebrities.
As part of her work as a live comedian, she has featured in a few other comedy shows outside of Saturday Night Live. In 2015, she was the featured entertainer at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. In 2016, she appeared in a commercial for Old Navy with two of her co-cast members at SNL. She also starred in TBS’s Angie Tribeca and FOX’s Scream Queens.
Cecily Strong has also appeared in a few movies and television shows, with the most notable ones being her appearance in The Boss and remake of the cult movie, Ghostbusters in 2016.

Cecily Strong is a talented and beautiful woman, so it is not surprising that her fans are curious about her personal life. However, the SNL cast member intends on keeping her personal life private and she’s been doing a fantastic job of that so far.
To the best of our knowledge, Cecily Strong is a single woman and has been for some time despite the rumors that she was dating Mike O’Brien, a Saturday Night Live castmate in 2013. There is presently no partner, or husband in her life for the moment.
