While growing up, Osric Chau had wanted to pursue a career in stunt performance. His passion for stunts led him into performing one for the American video game company, Electronic Arts (EA), and playing a role in the Chinese version of What Women Want. In the long run, Chau settled for acting, making his debut in the television series Kung Fu Killer.

Chau began his journey to fame, precisely in 2000, by acquiring training on Wing Chun for eight years. He went on to study Chinese martial art, traditional wushu, and tai chi under the tutelage of Zhang Ahi Bing, a renowned Chinese martial art teacher from Harbin.
Upon the completion of his studies four years later, he returned to China and began studies at West Coast Chinese Martial Arts in Vancouver under the guidance of Bruce Fontaine, who taught him modern wushu – a performance-related martial art.
After a successful training with Bruce, Chau, in 2007, trained with Beijing Sport University’s Wushu team for seven months in readiness for the Canadian National Team Trial. He later became a team member of Canadian National Wushu Team following a successful outing.
