Born Irving Rameses Rhames in New York City, New York on May 12, 1959, the star actor was brought up alongside his brother Junior Rhames, in a poor family with a father who was a mechanic and a mother who was a housekeeper. Unlike many others who were born in love with acting, Ving fell in love with the screen when he attended the High School of Performing Arts. From here, he went to the University of New York where he studied Drama.
Even as he has acted in a number of plays in the past, it was Go Tell It on the Mountain that became his first movie in 1984. This was followed by Native Son and Patty Hearst in 1986 and 1988 respectively. Subsequently, he acted in Casualties of War, The Long Walk Home, and Jacob’s Ladder.
