Many years ago, precisely on January 9, 1955, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, U.S, J K Simmons began life as a tot named Jonathan Kimble Simmons. He was born to Patricia (née Kimble) and Donald William Simmons. While his mom worked as an administrator, his father was a music school teacher who taught middle school students and later a college professor. J K has as his siblings David Simmons and Elizabeth Simmons. His brother grew to become a singer and songwriter, sort of maintaining the family tradition.

Tracing the childhood of J K Simmons, records reveal that when he was about 10 years old, his family relocated to Worthington, Ohio which saw him attending Thomas Worthington High School (1970-72) and by 1973, they settled in Missoula, Montana as his father secured a job as the director of music at the University of Montana (UM).
