Jade Thirlwall is a member of the four-piece all-girl English band known as Little Mix. The group had a highly successful debut album, DNA which peaked at number 3 on the UK chart. The album equally made it to number 4 on the US Billboard 200, the highest any debut by a British girl group had ever gone.

After two unsuccessful attempts at Britain’s X Factor as a solo act, Thirlwall joined forces with three other female vocalists to form the group at the 8th season of the competition. The group became the first group to win the X Factor as all other victors have been solo acts.

The highly talented singer was born Jade Amelia Thirlwall on December 26, 1992, to parents James Thirlwall and Norma Badwi. Her mother worked as a school administrator.

Jade Thirlwall is of English and Arabian descent but the Little Mix vocalist describes herself as a quarter Yemeni and quarters Egyptian.

Her father James Thirlwall is English while her mother Norma Badwi is partly Yemeni and partly Egyptian. Jade Thirwall’s maternal grandparents, Mohammid Badwi and Amelia Aziz had met and married in South Shields, which has been home to a Yemeni British community for centuries. Jade Thirlwall was eventually born in the same town.

Jade grew up in the coastal town of South Shields, Durham, England alongside brother Karl David. Her parents separated when she was very young.

Watching music videos with her dad sparked the young Jade Thirlwall’s interest in singing and performing. She started singing when she was just 6 years old and was thus enrolled at Steps Dance & Fitness, a dancing school in South Shields.

Her secondary education was at St. Wilfrid’s Community College where she participated in many singing competitions. The talented singer had a petite stature as a teenager which earned her the nickname “Pickle”.

For her first audition on season 5 of The X Factor, Thirlwall did a cover of I Want to Hold Your Hand, the first US number 1 hit of The Beatles. She was only able to go as far as the Bootcamp that year. She re-auditioned as a solo artist in 2010 without success.

Not deterred by her earlier failings, Thirlwall reauditioned for the third time in 2011. She didn’t do much better on her own and so she was made to join forces with Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock to form the all-girl group named “Little Mix” in 2011. The quartet participated as a group and went all the way to win the 8th season of the UK version of The X Factor.

After the competition, the group signed on to Syco Music, a record label owned by X Factor judge Simon Cowell. The group is also in a joint US deal with Columbia records.

The huge success that followed their X Factor success earned them a nomination as Band of the Year at the 2012 Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Even though they didn’t win that first nomination, the group remained consistent at their trade and in 2014 they were renominated and eventually got the award.

The group equally won 2 Teen Choice awards in 2015 and 2016 and they opened for the Dangerous Woman tour of American pop singer Ariana Grande.

The British-born singer is currently 25 years of age. Seeing that her music career took off on a brilliant note, Jade Thirlwall still has several years to bless the world with her incredible musical talents.

Boyfriend

Jade Thirlwall was in a relationship with Sam Craske of the British dance crew “Diversity”. The two had met in April 2012 and were an item for two years, they called it quits in June 2014.

Two years after, she met American musician Jed Elliott and they have been a couple since 2016. In addition to its relative longevity, the relationship between these two has been quite blissful and scandal-free.
