Jarrad Davis – Bio, Height, Weight, Body Measurements, Other Facts

Jarrad Davis is a professional linebacker who currently plays for National Football League, NFL’s Detroit Lions. Before being drafted by the Lions in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, he played college football for the University of Florida. As a freshman at Florida, Davis was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.

Jarrad Davis Bio

Davis was born in Kingsland, Georgia on the 16th day of November 1995 to John and Amy Davis. He is the only child of his parents and was raised in a very decent and disciplined household under the watchful eyes of his mother.

His father was in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and wasn’t always around so, he had his mother bring him up. His mom worked as a computer coder in the medical industry but despite her long hours at work, Davis said she was always there for him, teaching him how to be respectful to people, handle certain tough and challenging situations in an orderly manner, and he is really grateful to her.

His love for soccer began during his days at Camden County High School, Kingsland, Georgia. He played for the school team recording 114 tackles, he also played for the Wildcats football team with a record of three forced fumbles.

After High School, Jarrad craved for a Georgia offer, after his high school teammates – Quarterback Brice Ramsey and running back J.J. Green both got Georgia offers, when that was not coming through, he committed himself to Auburn University. But in late 2012, the then Auburn’s coach Gene Chizik was fired and the new coach that replaced him made it clear that they were lukewarm on recruiting Jarrad Davis.

Davis’ high school coach Jeff Herron then called the then Florida coach Will Muschamp, asking him to re-open Davis’ recruitment, he did and Davis was offered a scholarship after he (Will Muschamp) was certain that one of his linebacker commitments would be a non-qualifier, thus, Davis changed his commitment to the University of Florida.

As a freshman, he played in all of the team’s 12 season games recording one start, and 24 tackles. The following season (2014), he played in only nine games due to a knee injury, he ended his sophomore season with 23 tackles. And when Randy Shannon came in as the assistant head coach of the Florida Gators in 2015, he made Davis the team’s hard-hitting starting middle linebacker, and that season he started 12 of 14 games, recording 98 tackles with 3.5 sacks, and one interception.

He was even more determined to set a far more endearing record the next season, unfortunately, his senior season was hampered by an ankle sprain which left him on the bench. He scaled through the injury to make seven tackles in a game against Georgia, unfortunately, he couldn’t sustain that in their next game against Arkansas, the injury resurfaced and kept him benched in the next three games.

Professional Career

In 2016, Jarrad Davis received an invitation to play in the 2017 Senior Bowl, he, unfortunately, couldn’t attend due to his sprained ankle. Davis attended the NFL Scouting Combine, alongside 28 other collegiate linebackers, but he couldn’t perform any drill as a result of his sprained ankle.

However, by March 2017, as his ankle began to heal, he found his way to Florida’s Pro Day where he performed not some but all of the combine and positional drills. In fact, his 40-yard dash was one of the fastest at the NFL Combine.

During the draft process, Jarred Davis attended private visits and workouts with both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions, and draft experts projected he would make it to the first or second-round selection. NFLDraftScout.com ranked him the second-best inside linebacker and NFL analyst Bucky Brooks ranked him third. Another NFL analyst Mike Mayock also ranked him third and Sports Illustrated and ESPN ranked him the fourth-best linebacker in the draft.

And did their predictions and projections come true? Yes, it did, Jarred Davis was selected in the first round (21st overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and became the second linebacker to be drafted after Haason Reddick.

The Lions signed him on to a four-year contract worth $10.96 million. The contract includes a guaranteed sum of $8.54 million and a signing bonus of $6.11 million. At the training camp head coach, Jim Caldwell announced that Davis will begin the regular season as the starting middle linebacker and he debuted in the team’s opening game against Arizona Cardinals, recording 9 solo tackles and the first fumble of his career.

He ended his rookie season playing 14 games with 14 starts and recording 3 pass deflections, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 96 combined tackles ( which included 65 solos) 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.
