Surrounded by basketball players in the family, from his dad to his uncle, then to his two older brothers, it was just normal that the Oklahoma City Thunder forward, Jerami Grant to align himself to the trend that runs in the blood. He played both high school and college basketball before being drafted 39th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers at the 2014 NBA Draft.

Jerami Grant’s Biography

Grant was born in Portland, Oregon on the 12th of March 1994 to Harvey and Beverly Grant with the birth name Houston Jerami Grant. His father is retired professional basketball player who played for a couple of NBA teams such as the Washington Bullets, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Orlando Magic. Harvey is an identical twin and his twin brother Horace Grant also played professional basketball with NBA’s Chicago Bulls, Magic Orlando, and Los Angeles Lakers. The other two brothers also played basketball at their respective colleges.

Jerami is the third of his parents’ four children. He has two older brothers and a younger brother. He played high school basketball at DeMatha Catholic High School, Hyattsville, Maryland. During his senior year, he played a total of twenty-three games and averaged 12.5 points.

He was considered a 4-star recruit by and was named the No. 11 power forward in the country as well as and the No. 37 best player in the nation for 2012. After high school, he played college basketball at Syracuse. During the 2013/2014 season, he recorded an average of 1.4 assists, 12.1 points, and 6.8 rebounds per game and was named an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection. In that same year, he announced he was forgoing his last two collegiate eligibility for the NBA draft.

NBA Career

Grant was selected 39th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers at the 2014 NBA Draft. He signed a two-year contract with the franchise and joined them for the NBA Summer League that year. His first game with the team for the regular season was against the New York Knicks where he recorded 8 blocks and 4 points. His blocks were the highest the team has had in a game after the days of Samuel Dalembert who recorded 9 in a game back in 2007 and the highest by the team’s rookie since the days of Shawn Bradley back in 1994.

The next month, he recorded a season-best score of eighteen points and seven rebounds in a game against Cleveland Cavaliers which ended in a loss for his team. In 2015, he again joined the team for the Summer League and recorded his first career double-double in a game against Toronto Raptors in November of the same year. In December, he recorded a career-high of eleven rebounds and 5 blocked shots in a game against Sacramento Kings which ended in a 110–105 win.

He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Ersan İlyasova and a future NBA pick in 2016. His first appearance with the team was on November 2nd in a game against Los Angeles Clippers. In the game that ended in an 85–83 win, Jerami Grant hit 6 points 2 rebounds and two blocks. His season-high came in December in a game against Atlanta Hawks as he scored fifteen points even though the game ended in a 110–108 loss.

In 2017, Grant scored seventeen points off the bench in a game against Milwaukee Bucks that ended in a 110–91 win. In July 2018, he renewed his contract with the Thunder.


Two of Grants brothers (Jerai and Jerian) are professional basketball players. Jerai Grant currently plays as a power forward for the Neptūnas Klaipėda of the Lithuanian Basketball League. He also played college basketball at Clemson University.

Jerian Grant, on the other hand, plays professional basketball in the NBA. He is currently with the Orlando Magic as both a point/shooting guard. He also played college basketball at the University of Notre Dame and was drafted into the NBA in 2015 when the Washington Wizards selected him as the nineteenth overall pick. He played for the New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls before being traded to the Orlando Magic in 2018.

His younger brother Jaelin is also following in the family’s trend althought he is yet to go pro. In 2015, he was rounding off his senior season at DeMatha Catholic High School, Hyattsville, Maryland – the same high school his brothers attended.

Jerami Grant stands at a height of 6 ft 7 in (2.03 m) and weighs 92 kg that is 203 pounds. His wingspan measures 2.2 m.
