The Nickelodeon star was born Gerald William Trainor on January 21, 1977, in San Diego, California. Not much is known about Jerry’s childhood experiences. The actor did his high school education at the University of San Diego High School, which has since been renamed Cathedral Catholic High School.

While in high school, Jerry was a major figure in the school’s drama program. He was cast in many of their shows such as Pajama Game, Guys and Dolls, The Matchmaker, and Up The Down Staircase, among others. Trainor was also an ace student showing particular brilliance in maths. At some point, after high school, he was seriously considering ditching drama for a “real career” in architecture.

He later decided to stick to what he was good at and enrolled in the University of California, Santa Barbara to pursue a degree in theatre. Trainor also had some time at the Groundlings School in Los Angeles where he studied improv.

Gerald’s acting career kicked off when he got the opportunity to star in a series by MTV titled Undressed. Trainor was involved for two episodes. In the two years that followed, he made appearances in other series such as Angel, My Wife and Kids, Malcolm in the Middle, and ER. He also made cameos in 2001’s Donnie Darko and Evolution.

His first recurring role came in 2004 when he joined the cast of NBC’s Crossing Jordan. He was involved for a total of 5 episodes in the series. In the same year, Jerry Trainor’s affiliation with Nickelodeon started. His versatility to play almost any kind of role is the reason why he has enjoyed a lengthy spell with the network, appearing in over ten Nickelodeon shows, films, and competitions since 2004.

Jerry’s first Nickelodeon involvement was his portrayal of the character “Crazy” Steve in 10 episodes of the Drake & Josh series. He played the same character in an appearance on Sam & Cat. Trainor has also played a major role as Spencer Shay in iCarly and iGo to Japan.

He has done voice roles for both Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. He was on animated projects such as The Penguins of Madagascar, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Doc McStuffins, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and Bunsen is a Beast!

Jerry has been nominated for various awards for his work on iCarly and T.U.F.F. Puppy. He won the 2010 Australian Kids’ Choice Awards, and the 2011 UK Kids’ Choice Awards in the LOL Awards and Funniest Person categories respectively.

The actor opened his production account with the short-lived sitcom series Wendell & Vinnie, a series in which he was both producer and one of the title characters Vinnie. The show aired on Nickelodeon from February to September 2013.

Besides his acting responsibilities on Nickelodeon, he has also shown up in other projects from web series like Project Lore to podcasts like Halo’s Hunt the Truth.

In 2016, he was on NBC’s late-night talk show The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He appeared alongside Zac Efron and One Republic. In 2018, Jerry Trainor did voicing for the character called “The Wahoo Punch Bro” in an episode of Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Kid Danger.

Trainor added musician to his many titles in October 2015 when he formed a band. The group which goes by the name “Nice Enough People” includes two guitarists (one of which is also a vocalist), a drummer, and a Trainor himself who plays bass for the group. One of the guitarists is fellow Nickelodeon star Allison Scagliotti who was also part of the cast of Drake & Josh with Trainor. On June 22, 2016, the group put out their first project, an EP titled Hanover Hideaway.

The actor cum producer has always been vocal about his parent’s love and support for the direction he chose to go with his life and career. Jerry was born to Bill Trainor and Madelyn Trainor (formerly McNenly). He got his love for and excellence in maths from his mother who is a calculus and pre-calculus teacher at his high school alma mater. Trainor also has a sibling, a sister named Liz who also works in the film industry largely as a script supervisor.

Jerry does not have a wife, however, he is lucky to have found love from within the industry. Since 2008, he has been seen in the close company of fellow comedian, actress, and improviser Jessica Makinson. Although the couple has never really confirmed their relationship status, they are almost always seen together. Also, their frequent Instagram posts have helped to fuel the belief. However, he was rumored to have previously dated actress Hannah Stewart.
